Disgusting... Disturbing... I felt Dirty after watching that

I really expected to come on here and see how many comments about how disturbing this movie was and I didn't... I didn't even know there was an original. My husband rented it and said it was a thriller... Ok so it was a bit bloody at first but still watchable but the ending was so disgusting I just wanted a shower. Seriously sickening.

Meh , I havent had a daughter yet so I thought Joe's reaction when he learn the truth is ... over-reacted . The only disturbing thing to me is the incestuous relationship between father and son in the movie , lol .

I don't think there's a such thing as overreacting upon finding out you banged your own daughter.

Logan, buddy. It's me, Deadpool! I shot youuuuuu....

reply

Correction: banged her WELL.

I know right. You don't have to have any children to be absolutely disgusted with the very thought of that.Well sane people will be disgusted by that.

I'd guess you neither have a son or a daughter, but your logic is still all kinds of weird..

Male on female incest = Meh, what's the big deal?
Male on male incest = OMG SO SICK!

Uhm.. yeah.. whatever rocks your boat i guess? Don't even need to be a psychologist to get all kinds of weird vibes from statements like these

SPOILER

He didn't know...it's not his fault. He put himself back on the box as punishment so I would say he thinks it's awful too.

This movie was great. I hate subtitles but I may try to watch the original. Think this was a solid 7.5. Excellent premise. Very creepy family - Joe really redeemed himself at the end and that's what brought it all together for me

So if I'm 40 this year (see user name) I can't be with someone that's 20ish? Come on! That's ridiculous. He had a video of wha Mia looked like. It wasn't her. He was tricked. You are being silly now.

reply

After watching this, I just thank God that I look exactly like my dad!

YIKES!

reply

So you are a girl and you look exactly like your dad ? Why do you need to thank god for that look ? Lol .

reply

Not one to be cocky, but I don't think I'm TOO bad looking.

Edit: Haha, ok, sure.

5/10 at best with makeup

reply

I agree! Very disturbing.

reply

Watch the original. While that one is also very disturbing, it is very cinematic. It is fantastic as a film.

reply

Definitely don't watch the original then. This was a Disney film in comparison.

reply

I felt they chickened out and didn't make it "disturbing" enough like the original. But there is also something kind of sweet about the ending of the original. Spike Lee seemed to have instead borrowed the end of his own "The 25th Hour" and it just didn't work at all.

Why is this theme SO disturbing (i.e. far more disturbing than a claw hammer to the skull)? It's kind of like "Oedipus Rex"--that's a classic play and nobody finds it "sick" or disturbing. It's only a movie.

reply

I wouldn't call the ending to the original sweet. It looked to me as though the hypnotism hadn't worked and he still knew what he had done in the end. I haven't seen the remake yet so I'm not sure how it ends. The OP should definitely watch the original though. Min-Sik Choi's acting in the original may be the greatest acting I've ever seen. This one of the reasons I've been putting off watching the remake. I just can't see Brolin pulling it off, and most critics have said that he didn't.

reply

Brolin did pull it off

reply

Not even remotely.

reply

well he did, so deal with it and get some decent film taste

reply

So you're telling me that you thought Josh Brolin's acting in the remake was on par with Min-sik Choi's acting in the original? If so, I seriously suggest that you rewatch both movies because as it is you're either delusional, biased, or have incredibly terrible film tastes yourself.

reply

I did. Josh did a fantastic job in this. That said, I hate both the remake and the original.

reply

at least I'm not a sheep you utter moron, try and make your own logical opinion about a film rather than run around shouting "WAH! WAH! ITS A REMAKE! ITS AUTOMATICALLY CRAP! WAH WAH!!!!", you people on imdb are literally the most pathetic people in the world and you all embarrass real movie fans

reply

"at least I'm not a sheep you utter moron"

i wouldn't be so sure about that.

"laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone." - Dae-su Oh

reply

oh and thanks for reminding me; you idiots on imdb absolutely suck at responses.

reply

Thought this was bad, you should watch the end of "Serbian Film"..

reply

I agree... Brolin as an actor to me was a little better than the one from the original one, not to say that that one was bad or just decent (he was great/excellent), but Brolin was just a little better... ONE thing I didn't understand though is that after 20 years he looked better and younger... I hate the twist, but the movie was decent and this ending was much better.

I AM DEE BEE -- 10 years !

reply

He spent a large time of that 20 years exercising, training and eating better than before (no more booze), that alone could make you look better and younger.

reply

i was actually glad there was a purpose to their relationship after all.
I was wondering most of the movie what was the point of elizabeth olsen's character and why the love interest was a girl his daughter's age. I should have figured it out!

reply

I thought Josh Brolin pulled it off also, he was and is an amazing actor. everyone needs to stop comparing them and just see them as they are, separate movies. I didn't think it was disturbing or disgusting, it was a movie, come on. he didn't know that was his daughter, it was very realistic in that respect. on the other hand the guy getting revenge (Adrian) was sick and twisted for thinking his incest with his whole family was ok, and just because Josh saw it and reported it, makes him a terrible person ?
