I just finished this film and yes, I've seen the original British film first. However, I still enjoyed this remake. Although they're basically shot for shot, the two films are really different in atmosphere. I thought it was a consistently funny film and I'm shocked by the negative reviews it got. Sure, it's an unnecessary remake. Which remake isn't? However, it's funny. 7/10

I agree with you completely. I feel they had to do an ethnic twist for an American film. The British film hit on class generalizations and since we do not have that here in the US it either had to be a Greek, Italian, Jewish etc to show the interlopers and family outsiders. I think they did a great job.
