So is this a sequel to the one made in 2007?

I don't understand.

reply

Nope. It's the exact same movie, an American remake.

I understand the northamerican remakes of japanese, korean, swedish, spanish, etc. films, because of the language (I don't like the practice, but I do understand why they do it), but why do they made a remake of a well known british film from 3 years before? I don't understand that. It's like an USA version of "Trainspotting" or "Dancer in the Dark"...

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

reply

They would remake "Trainspotting" BECAUSE of the language...

It's to do with sales. Americans are much less likely to pay to see a British movie.

Films like 'Trainspotting' and 'Dancer in the Dark' are a different breed of movie, however. They'll appeal to a more "high brow" audience, and Americans in this crowd will see a foreign, English speaking movie if it's of a high enough quality.

Knock off comedies, however - ones which aren't even that well known in the UK (see 'Death at a Funeral' - seriously, I'm the only person I know who's seen it) will be Americanised. Nobody would pay to see the original in the US.

Then a lot of my fellow Americans are cheating themselves by missing some great British films.
