I dunno but I don't find british movies that good in Comedy, even a lot of American movies labeled as Comedy r not that good as Comedy
I was trying to think of some good American comedies, and all I could think of was some old Steve Martin films, and "Team America." There are other comedies that make me smile, but very few that make me laugh.
In contrast, there are a handful of British films that just crack me up totally, such as Monty Python, "A Fish Called Wanda" (is that British?), "Fawlty Towers", "Borat" and "The Dictator".
Comedy is definitely the most difficult form of film. I'm not sure about now, but England used to be culturally homogenous, so their humour could be more subtle and prickly. In contrast, the U.S,, as a nation of immigrants, has always been more culturally diverse, so their comedy has had to be more obvious, and less subtle, to even get made.
I suspect that a similar line of thinking explains why U.S. films generally do better in non-English speaking countries.
