Netflix Drops LGBTQ Tag for ‘Dahmer’ Amid Backlash

Alphabet people triggered by the existence of homo psycho killers!

The true crime series, produced by Ryan Murphy, was originally tagged in the LGBTQ category on the streamer. The series broke records on Netflix for being the most-watched Week 1 premiere for a new series, beating out even the viral “Squid Game.”

Evan Peters stars as real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who murdered 17 men between the years 1978 and 1991, before being arrested and later murdered in prison in 1994.

As IndieWire’s Ryan Lattanzio wrote, the 10-episode series “isn’t as grisly as you’d expect, though it’s certainly brutal at times” and largely remained close to the facts. Yet Netflix’s categorization of LGBTQ themes drew social media backlash, and inquiries as to whether the tag was because of Dahmer’s own sexuality or that his victims were queer.

reply

Can't have anything negative attached to the LGBTQABC123+-×÷ train.

reply

Bullshit. Have you actually ASKED a gay person whether they only want to see sunshine-and-lollipop representation of LGBT characters in media? Because if you have I’m sure they would unburden you of your social media echo-chamber misunderstanding that representation should only be positive representation.

Dahmer was a homo. A sick, demented, worthless excuse for a homo, but a homo nevertheless. Acknowledging that fact does not necessarily throw a negative shade on all gay people, no more than acknowledging Ted Bundy’s heterosexuality does on all straight people.

Gay people are not all the wilting flowers that the Twitterverse would have you believe. Regardless of any overly sensitive branding decision made by the Netflix overlords.

So maybe stop being such a bitter sarcastic bitch about it. How’s that for a plan?

reply

It does reflect rather poorly on Netflix for immediately playacting to the handful of wilting flowers on the Twitterverse as you put it. Unfortunately this sort of thing also reflects poorly on the LBGT community in general because the non crazy gay people stay quiet, effectively allowing these disingenuous & emotionally unstable people to speak for them who indeed want to see only "sunshine-and-lollipop representation of LGBT" or gays as being victims, unless of course the victimizer is also gay, then the LBGT connection will be buried and ignored. Can't have that or else they may throw a blatantly dishonest, gaslighting hissy fit like they did with this series.

reply

Ridiculous, considering Dahmer is probably the most famous LGBTQ person in all of American history.

reply

What an immense dishonour to all his gay victims.

reply

I don't think Dahmer was gay, he had some other fucked up sexuality.

reply

dahmer was gay. Hes admitted to it

reply

That's not what I mean, he was turned on by violence and disection, that's not 'gay' That's some other kind of screwy sexuality. Do you get what I'm saying?

reply

Dahmer was definitely gay. He was not turned on by violence. The killing was not what drove him. He had to deaden himself with alcohol to be able to kill. He wanted a male to stay with him and never leave him. He only killed his gay victims so they would not be able to leave him.

Saying Jeffrey Dahmer was not gay is just as ridiculous as it would be to say Ted Bundy was not actually heterosexual.

You only want to exclude Dahmer from homosexuality because he makes gays look bad.

reply

lol How in the Hell does Dahmer make gays look bad? He was a man too, do you think he made men look bad or white people?

reply

Lol. Then why were gays so insistent that Netflix not class Dahmer as an LGBTQ show? And why are you trying to deny that Dahmer was gay?

reply

. . . Because its not an lgbt show. I just happen to think what you are attracted to is your sexuality.

reply

I suppose by that logic, you must also believe that Ted Bundy wasn't straight because he was also turned on by "some other kind of screwy sexuality", even though all of his victims were women?

reply

God no I don't think Ted Bundy was straight. The man got off on murdering women, that's not 'straight'.

reply

He was both gay and definitely not turned on by violence, though.

Before he died, he did a lot of interviews and often said that he'd usually get borderline blind-drunk before he killed (because he disliked the violence). He just wanted them to never leave him.
He said that he experimented with trying to keep them alive, (trying to make obedient zombies) but just ended up killing them.

Normally, there'd be a lot of reason to disbelieve a serial killer, especially if they're saying they aren't into violence.
IMO though, regarding Dahmer, I think I believe most of what he said.
He was pretty bluntly honest with his replies and never tried to make himself look better than he was (or so it seemed). He basically said himself that his answers would make him even more hated, but he didn't see a need to sugar-coat anything and just wanted to get everything off his chest.

It's been a while since I watched them, but most (if not all) are up on YouTube if you (or anyone) happens to be interested.
If I remember right, the one with the most information is fairly long and broken into segments/chapters. I THINK it's the one where he's accompanied by his father.
