Cannes Film Festival - Here We Come
Monday, May 10, 2010

Hi all,

It's going to be a case of from the lab to the airport! "The Reef" will be ready tomorrow morning after months of post-production.

I am on a plane at 2pm to head to the Cannes Film Festival where "The Reef" will have its first ever public screening - what a ride!

Fingers crossed the world still has an appetite for shark movies. Stay tuned!

All the best
Andrew

It's tense as f@#k with a *massive* shark. the way they shot it was great, splicing the surface with subsurface, not knowing where to look. the shark is hard to spot in all that blue, then it just appears...

check out "black water" as well, great croc flick from the same director.

hey, thx for your reply. seen it too and I loved it. I think Andrew did a great job on this one and even increased the tension and visuals from Black water!

The movie wasn't bad but the shark attacks sucked. A little red in the waters, character sucked under, and thats it. No screaming even.

I get thats realistic from the surviving characters Point Of Views (I.E. you see your friend get pulled under, he doesn't come back up, except for blood; shark got him) but I wish they had had some under water scenes with characters getting chomped.

I know these guys like to use real crocs and sharks in their films but a few well made animatronics can go a long way- you have to remember, 90% of your audience have no imagination.

reply

Yeah, I know what you mean about the chomping part. Too bad that movies like that don`t have enough money to get some cgi or animatronics stuff done!

Were the sharks CGI or real? and I agree they should have added some chomping rather than them just going down and coming back up with a pool of blood.
