I was expecting that to become a plot point -- they set out in the dinghy, and it starts to sink under them. If they were just going to swim, and no-one question it, I think it needed another line of dialogue somewhere in there prior to the capsize to confirm that the dinghy had been holed and couldn't be used, because it wasn't clear.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I think the obvious visual queue, right around the 13 minute mark, of the rear corner of the dingy deflated and flopping around with the waves shortly after the line "I think it's leaking", the part when they are trying to start the engine, was ample enough. The plainly show it in a state of deflation.

Can't quite remember but don't you see it sinking just after the boat capsizes? With an oar floating away...
