Stop thrashing about.

I know you're scared and sharks aren't an every day encounter for someone, but STAY STILL. You thrash about and the shark is going to naturally be a) curious, or b) convinced you are a tasty snack.

Maybe these folks never watched shark week I dunno.

Also swim like crazy to the blooded spot.

One thing that really drove me mad was Luke (LOOOOYK! LOOOOOOOYYYK!) kept putting the goggles on to look underwater then up on his head out of the water. I know this is so the camera can see his pretty face and we can see the fear in his eyes etc. etc. but really - I've done plenty of diving and you just keep them on, you can see perfectly well out of the water with them on. He's just going to tire himself out treading water with legs only while he lifts his arms out to fiddling with the goggles...he's wasting time oh look too late, see.

Just watched this film and it was pretty good, but I couldn't understand why Luke kept putting on goggles and looking underwater for the shark. It's not like they could do anything about it when he saw it coming. Better not to know it's there... so less chance to panic and thrash about.

I'd be more intent on swimming and looking ahead. Not stopping and peering around for that fin every two seconds.

Somebody should do something about everything.

Okay, they never saw shark week (good one) ... but don't they LEARN? Behavior x attracts sharks to you. Do not engage in behavior x the next time you see a shark. How hard is that?

reply

You've GOT to be kidding, right?

Here's a little hint from the Discovery Channel......a great white effing shark swimming around underneath you while you're helplessly treading water in the middle of the ocean.....TRIGGERS behavior x....whether you want it to or not.

Disagree.

You're basically helpless in the water. Our brain/mind/intelligence (well intelligence is debatable for some) is our greatest asset. That tells you to stay still and not attract attention.

MANY MANY humans have proved this through time when dealing with a potentially fatal situation. Soldiers for example. They know if they make a sound they are dead, so they stay quiet and attract less attention.

Same rule applies here. The acting and behaviors were full out darwin awards. The human race is stronger for these people having died. Maybe that was the point.

"Hey audience, we realize there are full out tards out there that should be dead. Here's one for ya!"

The movie was scary but.got a bit repetitive.

1. Spot shark that you can't do anything about anyway.
2. Immediately stop moving forward.
3. Have one guy look in fear at the shark at regular intervals.
4. Go completely crazy with your limbs to create as much splashing as possible.

When the shark, attracted by the insane splashing gets some food, resume swimming. Repeat above routine when a shark is spotted again.
