Great movie!

I thought this was a great movie! I went by myself and enjoyed it immensely. I'm really surprised it didn't crack the top five movies at the box office. I thought it was the same level of fun and funniness as the first Night at the Museum. Yogi Bear did fairly well with families, and I'm surprised Gulliver didn't do equally as well. I would have loved this movie when I was a kid. It's fun, silly, and has heart. And the effects were very well done.

It might be different than the book, but it's just a separate entity. Like the recent Journey to the Centre of the Earth. They aren't trying to be an accurate adaptation, just something based on the source.

Anyway, after reading so many negative reviews, I had to chime in. I feel like I did when I enjoyed Mr.Bean's Holiday so much, only to find out that very few people in North America felt the same way, and it surprised me, lol.

Do you work for the studio?

reply

lol, no, I don't. I'm a 36 year old female who enjoys a variety of movies from Great Escape to Star Wars to Gulliver's Travels.

I thought this movie was great! I saw it with my two girls (ages 10 and 8) and they liked it too. Obviously, you're not supposed to think too much about plot lines and how accents are just thrown around. Just enjoy yourself. It reminds me of those 80's movies: light-hearted, protagonist learns a life lesson - that sort of thing.

I saw this with a friend today and we both found it a lot of fun!

Who can take you higher than a twin peak mountain blue?

I like Jack Black. I really do. But this was about as far as I'll go with him. This was typical Jack Black stuff with moments of severe and utter embarassment. This should have been animated. Then at least it might have found an audience.

(edit: I just saw that Stoller and Stillman wrote the screenplay. That makes sense now. Knowing that it was written by writers of animated features, I see where it gets that feel of a modern animated story like Shrek)

Freedom has a lot to do with tolerating the crap you don't like people doing

Embarrassment? What are you talking about? I thought the movie was pretty funny, like with the scenes where he's appearing to make some trouble for the enemy fleet by thrashing about in the water, and the one where the general has to controll his walk back to the palace to rescue the princess. It's that kind of madcap humor that always has me LOL.

I thought the movie was ok but it was not the best though to be honest with you. I mean I had a good time and enjoyed it but it is not something that I want to add to my film collection that I have.

The movie was ok but it was not the best though. Some parts of it was entertaining in my opinion.

Just watched it on DVD and was pleasantly surprised. I actually laughed out loud several times and it never lost my interest. Jack Black is never less than engaging to watch and sometimes he is inspired. He certainly made the most of this opportunity. Gulliver is just a silly romp. And that's a problem because...?

Like I have stated before. The movie was ok but it was not the best though. Some parts of the movie was funny and other parts were not.

I thought this movie was terrible - well made, but waaaaaaay too juvenile and just too many things that just made it dumb. In other words - a movie strictly for kids or for people with just about the same level of humour as a 12 year old.

Don't you mean people with ANY bit of humor whatsoever? If you don't find this film hilarious, than you are completely humorless and have absolutely NO sense of humor.

ALL HAIL THE HIGH QUEEN!!!!!

i actually like it too.

Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I found the film quite good but not that convincing. A quality film would make you watch it over and over again..

I watched it with my nephew and we both enjoyed it. It got us both laughing at some parts. Not sure why it's got such a low rating, but I tend not to trust imdb too much anyway. There are so many mediocre movies that get a higher grade than 7, which makes it suspect. Anyway, I scored this a 7.

This movie was HILARIOUS. So was Mr. Bean's Holiday lol. Anyone who disagrees just lacks a sense of humor...

<Generation "me" is an EPIC FAILURE>

I enjoyed it, just a light hearted fun escape type movie. Along the lines of tooth fairy, but more entertaining. People must be really uptight to rate this so low, or they are not kids at heart, too serious. I guess they were expecting a movie that was for kids and adults too, but this was mainly a kid's movie. If you can wind down and just enjoy the adventure and fantasy you could enjoy it.

It's Jack Black humor and if you don't get it, ya don't git it!!! I like Jack and found the movie entertaining and funny in most places...although some weren't. Overall very watchable. Now let's go partieeeeeee!! (party)

Nowhere near as good as Mr. Bean's Holiday which got an 8 from me.
But still an OK film would give it a 5 to a 6.
