Isla Fisher

OK was it just me or was that the worst scottish accent ever? I am aware they were all very sketchy in the film but hers was unbearable! It actually distracted me from the (terrible) storyline!

Yeah it was terrible. It sometimes seemed like she was trying to do all the different Scottish accents at the same time!

reply

lols! I had my husband whisper in my ear everytime she spoke that she was from Bathgate! Its like that makes a difference since she was brought up in Australia!

She gave Heather Graham in From Hell a run for her money.

Fleetingly she had a reasonable 'impression' of a Scottish accent but at other times it was just like she had forgotten she was meant to be Scottish.

reply

imdb says she was born to Scottish parents in Oman. So she might be on to something.

reply

Yep, she couldn't keep a consistent brogue - one minute she sounded vaguely like she was from the West End of Glasgow, the next like she was from the Western Isles and then it dropped entirely and was pure Summer Bay. Not once did she stumble across Edinburgh.

reply

The whole time she was on screen I kept thinking "what? they couldn't find a ginger actress from scotland???" Given how good the casting was in the film i felt that she was an own goal.

Why quote other people when I like the sound of my own voice?

reply

The whole time she was on screen, I was thinking 'I don't care what crappy accent she's got, i would bang the sh*t out of that fire crotch' She is so hot, I'm glad she was in it. In fact, I'd say it was the excelent cast that got me through this film. I won't be watching it again, but it was an enjoyable, throwaway romp... which incedently, is what i'd like with Mrs.Borat! I think Isla is great so she is. And even though she is part Scottish herself, she can't put on the accent very well. I've heard worse attempts at the accent in my time as a movie viewer. Way worse than Isla's Scottish accent. But yeah she wasn't great at carrying it. NOW Tim Curry was decent in using the accent I was surprised to hear him when he spoke.

She was probably the worst, but since NOBODY was absolutely perfect anyway, I don't think she really stuck out.

Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me

reply

why didn't they just cast Kelly Macdonald?
the girl from train spotting. she was also in no country for old men
and did a superb deep south american accent in that. she's a great actress
and is scottish

mind you she probably wouldn't want to be associated with this tripe

you are all that matters and i love you till the day i die.....

reply

There was no point to her being in the film. They should have folowed the real events rather than made up this terrible love story with ehr playing macbeth.

reply

I thought Andy Serkis' accent was the worst. Other then her accent, Isla was good in the part.

reply

Just saw this movie. Why is everyone going on and on about her accent and not her horrible, horrible speech impediment? Surely that could be fixed with training or surgery or something. Her mouth is practically deformed the way she moves her tongue, it has nothing to do with how she 'does the accent'.
