This part of the movie bugged me

I watched the movie for the first time yesterday and I loved it. The whole part of the movie about Jennifer's nephew crying that he wouldn't be able to go to college because the grandparents were using his college fund to pay for the wedding was sort of dumb in a way. I know several people whose college funds were partially funded by their grandparents but some of these same people still got scholarships, loans and grants and their parents also helped for their college education. In the movie they made it seem like it was the end of the world because the grandparents were paying for the wedding with the grandchildren's college funds.

what bugged me was that they seemed to get a considerable amount of money from Vince's dad, enough money for a full blown wedding! so why did they go through with the wedding when they got the money before? kinda bugged me...

I think by that point they both (not quite realizing it yet) kind of WANTED to get married. I mean, she was pretty on top of things and dogged him ALOT at the beginning of the movie so if she still had those feelings and didn't want to marry him, I think she would have spoken up. I think at that point, they had already developed feelings for each other. I mean, he could have just paid off his debt but I think he was already getting attached to her family. Right after he gave her the check and said goodbye to the kids he was telling her he missed them already.

I agree that part was dumb. I mean, first of all, both kids were still pretty young. So who's to say the grandparents couldn't have replenished his college fund by the time he was old enough to go? Second of all, there's NOTHING wrong with kids paying their OWN way through college. And third, it's quite possible his own parents have a college fund set up so it's not the end of the world if the grandparents can't pay.

I think the whole point of the nephews comment was that Vince started caring about HER family's well being and even though he did NOT want to mend things with his dad he went to get money from him anyways. Originally Vince made Jennifer accept her parents offer to pay for the wedding but he wouldn't accept his own fathers. I think he started caring enough to compromise his feelings a little bit because he cared about her family.

Jennifer's nephew overheard his grandparents talking about using the kids' college fund to pay for the wedding. And like most little kids, he misunderstood it to mean that he and his sister would never be able to go to college. I'm sure his parents and grandparents would have things worked out by the time the kids were old enough to go to college.

haha i made a thread about that as well; i mean i thought her sister had the perfect husband w/a great job and wonderful children -- i kinda think they threw that in their so vince would meet his father and get the money from him - and it got his parents reunited as well -- but that part w/the LITTLE kid saying that was just so out there... i mean hey those are her parents too, and they paid for her sister's weddding.. i also don't believe that jennifer looked like the OLDER sister, and the other one was younger -- melissa joan hart looks soooo much younger than the lady from law and order:svu -- jennifer should've been the younger sister not the older - it was too obvious.
