Would conservative values help these kids?

What I noticed throughout this documentary was how utterly lost these kids are.

I'm an atheist and a minority, but I honestly think it would help a lot of these kids and broken homes. Self reliance, love of country, avoiding drugs, a strong sense of community, no more living in the 1950's mindset of black vs white, taking accountability for their actions, seeing themselves as part of something greater than themselves, military service, etc.

It's ironic that the 1st Black President is a liberal community organizer from Chicago and has done nothing to help these kids. Absolutely nothing at all. If anyone should watch this documentary it's our commander in chief.

Anyway though, all politics aside, this was a wonderful documentary. Well done, a little on the long side but very engaging. I was especially impressed by Ameena Mathews.

Sorry, but I respectfully think you're very misguided for multiple reasons. Let me address each of your suggestions.

Self reliance is strongly advisable indeed, but complete self reliance cannot be expected from someone who hasn't had an opportunity to complete college yet. This means they must have the opportunity to enroll in college in the first place, and then finish it successfully, even with graduate education if that's what they want. After this, they can be totally self reliant. Taking accountability goes with it.

Love of country often leads to blind patriots who follow what the government tells them without questioning its righteousness. The real patriot questions everything, looking for evidence and optimality, and doesn't just follow the conservative agenda.

A strong sense of community - yes, but not completely at the expense of individuality. Also, the problem with community is the mentality of my block versus your block.

Military service - no thanks. The military industrial complex is already too large. I am not opposed to a limited military, however, and thank all those who volunteer and not have an agenda to slaughter arabs and innocents.

As for drugs, this is a fairly complicated topic, but is at the root of everything that's going on. The clearest solution is to legalize drugs completely, dispense them safely as pharmaceuticals with educational materials, and not with antidotes if they have a high potential for toxicity. Part of the money gained from these sales would go toward voluntary programs for weaning people off drugs, and also for providing free drugs to addicts until they have weaned off. Neurology has come a long way, and if done right, there is no logical reason for common recreational drugs to harm anyone significantly. The war on drugs is grounded in extremely limited logic, but is a huge revenue source for local communities via fines.

You can't speak of self-reliance and then bash Obama in the same post for not helping out. He is just a pawn for the corporate funders of the Democratic party.

I was not too impressed by Ameena, for she is a Muslim, and sooner or later we know what they do in terms of spreading Islam by any means necessary, and also punishing all infidels by death.

I have now written a different post with non-traditional alternatives to solve the crime problem.

Aren't conservative values similar to a capitalist ideology in that there's an "every man for himself" attitude? And consume, consume, consume? To me, conservative values, instead of being the solution, are the problem. Instead of conservative values where "more is more" and "greed rules" we need a society where people share what they have so that things are more equal. That would mean the youth we see in this movie would not suffer so incredibly like they have. And with less suffering...less problems.

If by 'Conservative', you mean - Two Parents in an Unbroken Home, then YES.

The liberal/progressives point of view is to keep voting democrat which merely propels the same/continuous cycle of violence/poverty/crime/immorality.

Obama has utterly FAILED the inner-cities, especially Chicago - He will be remembered merely as the President who put men in the ladies room.
