My Review of Sand Serpents

On the plus side, the CGI effects are fairly good for this kind of thing and the design of the worms is interesting to look at.

On the minus side, the worms are just too big. There should be giant holes all over the place from where they've surfaced. The ground should be collapsing in areas where they dug tunnels. And I really don't see how they would be able to reach up as high in the air as they do. It's like the snakes in Anaconda, but 10x worse cause of the increased size. I kept wondering after their first attack, how they could have wiped out the group of Taliban so near the building, yet left so little evidence behind.

The script and acting was about average for a SciFi movie (I agree that SyFy looks silly.) The monsters were really the only thing of interest.

My only quirk with this movie is that even though everyone sees it coming and nobody likes him, I really disliked the fate and death of Andrews. He may have been a dick, but I liked his character more than LT

I really liked this movie. It was better than the old SCI-FI Originals. It had a tiny bit better special effects and it had better acting. They may have took the worms right out of the movie Dune, but it was still really cool.

My biggest complaint with Sci-Fi Channel (and it's been one for a while) is the placement of a commerical with only five minutes of show left!

Sand Serpents wasn't the most technically accurate movie. It was a more militarized version of Tremors.

reply

I know! That was horrbile. 5 min left of the movie and you have to have a break for commercials. That's stupid.

I agree about the special effects being better than usual. Certainly better than SciFi's Book of Beasts (Women in nightgowns whose heads occasionally turn snakey as the main monsters? Supposedly the book put all sorts of mythological creatures at the main villain's disposal, and all we get for the most part are 3rd rate gorgons? Yeesh.) I just can't get around the fact that things of that size should be doing more damage to landscape.

He didn't even really have to jump in. He could have thrown his suicide belt inside its mouth instead. What an idiot.

reply

Yeah, but it wouldn't detonate, the worm would just eat the bombs and pass it out later. You need to push the button to make the explosion.

However, you're right, he was dumb. He should've just warned the pilot and asked him to fire a missile instead.

Very poor movie
-Bad acting
-Bad directing
-Absolutely NO script at all (fck, nothing happened there ! where was the script ?!)
-Very good special effects (this really is the only good thing)
