my only real disapointment *spoiler*

is that I wish the game expounded more on the Illuminati, I wish you met characters like Morgan Everett, Bob Page and even Lucius DeBeers (before he got out in that cryo tube thing)

being a prequel I had kind of hoped we would learn more about the Illuminati and Bob Page's relationship with them before he went rogue

as is you don't meet ANY of the characters from the previous games, they're only referred to and the Illuminati is even more mysterious and more sinister than in the original game, it was always my interpretation that the Illuminati was meant to be about maintaining the status quo and it was Bob Page who was the real a$$hole who wanted to create the "new world order"

though Lucius DeBeers does admit that the Illuminati killed JFK, so maybe they're not quite the good guys after all

Yes I agree but my real dispiriting thing with this game is the the augs don't last long enough in combat such as the cloaking device. You go around looking for good upgrades but then you passes half way through the game and the desired augs have not really been satisfying. Praxy points ar

Judging from how the game ended it's possible we might see them in the sequel. Besides the game does give you more questions than answers such as who is Adam Jensen? What's his real name and who are his real parents?

That's your only disappointment? What about the fact that your actions have barely any impact on the storyline or how NPCs react to you? Deus Ex was full of that stuff, Human Revolution barely has any. For example you can wipe out the SWAT team in the first level and nobody will ever mention it. You can even kill everyone in the police station and nothing happens because of it.

reply

Yeah, I was hoping the showdown at the end of Omega Ranch might play out differently depending on whether you got the upgraded chip or not. Apparently, just a few lines of dialogue in the cutscene though.

Maybe thats something that will be improved upon in a sequel.

The newspapers strewn throughout the game mention this. On my first playthrough I decimated the police station and every newspaper in town had a story on it and an artist's impression of Jensen.

I have a feeling that will come into play during the inevitable sequel.

They're not really good or bad. They're a clandestine group dedicated to directing society towards the ends it sees as most beneficial.

well ok, I have a few other complaints, like the fact that there's no dive bar anywhere in the game, not even in Detroit, WTF? it's a Deus Ex tradition to be able to go into a dive bar and get drunk, there is the nightclub, but that's it

secondly the music, with the exception of the end credits music, the music that plays when you pause it and the music that plays in the Sarif building, the music is boring and nowhere near as god as the music in the first game

third, there's only two city hubs, that's the one thing I feel the developers kind of missed the point on, Deus Ex is supposed to have more than just two Cities in the game, the original had New York, Hong Kong and Paris, Invisible War had Seattle, Cairo and Germany, Human Revolution only has Detroit and Hengsha and while they're bigger than any of the city hubs in the previous games, they don't feel like they have quite as many nook and crannies to explore

Pretty sure the developers get to choose what's supposed to be in their own game... Just sayin.

There were supposed to be hubs for Montreal and Upper Hengsha and a third city I think, but they ran out of time to implement.

They had most of Upper Hengsha constructed so maybe we will see it in a DLC at some point...

Apparently we were supposed to see New York and that the events of HR are what was to supposed to form UNATCO after the Statue of Liberty was bombed. We never got see any of them, just a few references to Joseph Manderley.

The voice actors were great.
Adam was leagues better then JC.

You can play it as straight up action, you are just rewarded less for taking the more direct path.

Yes, consoles have been and will continue to handicap the PC game market.

You're the funniest thing I seen since Biter chewed off that Septa's teats - Rorge

Yeah, the voice acting the top-notch.

My big disappointment with this game was something I noticed when I started playing it again. The game throws WAY too many story-related details at you from the very getgo. There are things that I did not catch or understand during my first playthrough that I am just finding out or understanding now. DX and DX: IW were far better in that regard, in that, they threw you right into the fire but eased you into the storyline.

That's a negative. There are many very early foreshadowings of the evil conspiracy in the first DX as well, hacking Manderley's computer for instance or even the intro film with Bob Page and Simons revealing their whole operation.

Insivisble War is a totally dreadful and ridiculous joke...

Plus, as you said, you only caught the foreshadowing the second time you played DXHR, when you already knew all of its story, if it was the first time playing that you unravelled the whole conspiracy, then you could complain.

"Invisible War is a totally dreadful and ridiculous joke..." No it wasn't!

My big issue with it was the whole Megan Reed thing.

The guy goes through hell, turns himself into a cyborg to save her. Goes back through hell.

Then it's just "oh, hey, I've saved you now, GIT TO DA CHOPPA."

And off back to chasing another plot coupon.

Well, there was the news announcement of the whole Hugh Darrow crippling biochip activation and world suddenly being thrown into great peril. Adam had to act and not chit-chat, that served me right. Besides, he did tell Megan he was not done talking with her when she left.

You DO meet 2 characters from the original. Tracer Tong (Explosive Mission Pack) and Gary Savage (The Missing Link).

reply

And apparently Tiffany's mom, who's also named Tiffany? And what if you killed her, does that mean Savage's daughter isn't there in Deus Ex?

I loved HR though.

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.

reply

The games do take a bit of a pop culture approach to the Illuminati and the federal lands in Nevada, complete with references to the Greys. I feels slightly disconnected from what little we know about the original Illuminati of circa 1774. I think, the Assassins' Creed series takes a slightly more in-depth approach, but of course, I'm talking vastly different time periods, as well as different authors. I'm guessing, stuff like this is supposed to be mysterious to a degree. We should get to learn some more about Bob Page, though.
