ABC did not cancel this show!

It's not canceled thank god. this is a really awesome series I had a movie idea and this series is what it was going to be. The series gets better and better with everyone ep. I think the actors are fantastic also everything works....

reply

it's a terrific show. Since I love it - it won't be renewed.

reply

ABC hasn't, yet. They just didn't cancel early, but said they'll air the remaining episodes before making a decision.

The ratings were poor, so I'm not expecting it to be renewed.

reply

Possible but I think they are expecting to see how the show is doing in a better placement. It was a big mistake to show this in the summer and they totally *beep* up the promotion so they will probably try something different and see if it works this time. They probably also expect to see how the show is selling outside the US. A LOT of scifi shows have lasted for years with poor ratings in the US just because there is a huge scifi crowd in foreign markets.

I think it may be doing decent here in Australia. It's only playing on Arena which is a cable channel, but they are advertising it quite a lot. I see an advert for each weeks new episode at least once a day while my TV is on in the background. Hopefully this is a good sign.

Just started today in the UK.

First impressions are good, I just it doesn't go down the usual 'prolonging for profit' that has pervaded many other series that have come out of the US in the past few years.

reply

Further to the previous poster's message; it's on BBC2 and BBC HD, here in the UK. BBC2 being one of our five main channels.

If it takes off here, there's a good chance the BBC would help fund it.

reply

Yes, just finished seeing the two episode premier of it in the UK on BBC Two and I think its got the potential to becoming a cult like Farscape or even Firefly. Let's hope it doesn't wonder in all directions like some of the shows now (Unfortunately HEROES is one of them).

Stupid ratings... they should take a look at the seeds/leechers on the torrents :P

reply

Am catching the end of this as there is a lousy schedule this evening in the UK.
It really has just appeared out of nowhere on BBC2 or I have never heard of it being promoted. But that is the BBC for you.
It has Ron Livingston in it which is a plus but it seems to be formulaic US rubbish.
I'm quite willing to be proved wrong.

Not bad at all, but I fear the unknown ('Beta' in some other threads) will be the 'Lost' turn-off point. There really was no need to bring it in.

Just a heads up - it's already been moved by the BBC to Thursday next week.

I hope this comes back because I do love it. I heard some comments that they'd air a couple more shows, but then there were talks of not airing the remaining episodes and sending it straight to DVD for us to finish watching on our own. What really ticks me off is that shows like Cougartown, The Middle, and FlashForward are lasting and Defying Gravity which I personally enjoyed much more than any of those shows I mentioned. I mean, come on, as much as I like Courtney Cox, Cougertown is awful, Flashforward had me bored in about 20 minutes and I couldn't even watch the whole series premier of The Middle. Come on ABC! Give us entertainment AND SUBSTANCE!

I also watched the first episode of this last night and although I switched over to watch True Blood afterwards I will probably watch Episode 2 but DAMN does it need to pick up.

The first episode was horrible. The acting was decent, the plot semi-understandable, the execution and directing was just appalling, the worst I have ever seen in an import series.

I appreciate that people have different tastes but I honestly cannot see how anyone could have enjoyed the first episode. It jumped from scene to scene in an entirely disjointed fashion, like the writers knew what they wanted but edited out half of it for time purposes. It is no wonder that this has poor viewing figures, the producers need to look at the example of Prison Break, which had a long build up of tension throughout the series, or other successful first seasons like Lost, Heroes and ironically True Blood which explode in the viewers face and grab their attention.

The annoying bit is that the premise, of near future space exploration without the obligatory humanoid aliens, federation of planets and the odd space battle is interesting. I hope to give it a few more episodes to see if the first one was just getting the back story out of the way but have the writers never heard of "start as you mean to go on"?

TV Squad reports that the sets in Vancouver are being demolished. Unfortunately, I don't think it's coming back.

Watched the first two episodes on BBC2 and thought it had some potential so started watching the third episode online. Just turned it off half way through as I just can't take the endless relationship analysis that is going on. Willing to give it another go but does anyone know who this is aimed at? fans of Sci Fi or fans of Greys Anatomoy as I could save myself a lot of time if its the latter.
Or maybe i'm just a robot ; )

The annoying thing is that the show got cancelled in the US just after episode 8 was aired, but it was episode 9 where it REALLY started to get exciting. If the US could have hung on for just one more ep, then maybe things would have picked up in the ratings.

What I was wondering however is, how were the ratings in Canada? Could the show still be made if only the Canadians, Australians and Brits liked it alot? Could they continue without US network support? Or do they need that influx of money that selling to a US network was giving them? Well, I'm not sure how it really works, but I was thinking along those lines. In Australia most of the Australian made tv shows are just made for Australian audiences. If other countries like them as well then that's a bonus, but I don't think it really affects whether or not they get cancelled. It all depends on how an Australian audience reacts to them and how well the ratings go here, as to whether an Australian show will make it or fail.

I'm just wishing really that the Canadians could keep making more seasons. It wouldn't be a cheap show to make though I imagine.

The network that aired it (ABC) wasn't the network that funded it (FOX). Could there be a bit of deliberate skullduggery?

reply

They showed the pilot on BBC2 on Thursday and I was hooked! Have watched upto ep 6 now. I think it's a great show and really hope they don't do a firefly and cancel it prematurely. (altho obviously it's not as good as firefly).

reply

Great show, I hope they get another season.

reply

Looks like I was was wrong... Defying Gravity has been canceled

reply

Well, given that they're tearing down the sets for the production, I'd say they're doing a pretty good imitation of cancellation. As for that crap about ABC waiting until the next 5 episodes have been shown , that's just the same kind of bull they always spout.

That said, however, WHOA!!!! I just saw episode 13 online, and it knocked my socks off!! I love this show. It deserves much more of a chance in primetime than it's had so far.

I hope DG is not canceled. I really like the story but I hate lines in an episode saying fractal fractal fractal fractal fractal fractal, it's fractal, look fractal fractal fractal fractal...

I keep signing the monitor with a sharpie but my signature doesn't appear on here.
