Cancellation confirmed

Looks like the set has been destroyed : http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/10/22/set-visits-reveal-ghosts-of-defying- gravity-set-destruction
It's a damn shame. I just saw the first episodes on the BBC and went out and downloaded the others up to ep12 today. It's really good, hope they go out with a bang on ep13.

This is far from a 'confirmation'.

Indeed, lets hope its unfounded, or at least that all of season 1 episodes have already been recorded.

nevermind, it is founded, the show has been cancelled since Space has started to rerun all the episodes from the pilot and onwards.

What is weird is that they say the TV ratings for the show were horrible, but when I looked them up, every episode was getting around 2.3-2.4 million viewers, which was "not enough".

The premiere of Stargate:Universe was also 2.3 million viewers, and Syfy channel are bragging about how big a success it is.

Someone tell me I got the numbers wrong.

reply

thats because syfy has a vastly smaller audience. they are getting the same rating of a show with half their audience. death!

I could be wrong, but I understood that 13 episodes were all that were ordered for season 1. Which means they've all aired in Canada by now (ABC in the U.S. claims it really hasn't canceled the show and will air the last 5 episodes later on -- but they can still cancel the show AND air the last 5 episodes, so that doesn't mean anything). If indeed the sets for Defying Gravity are being (or have already been) torn down, that's a pretty good imitation of cancellation. Still, given the disasters of the fall season so far -- like the insipid Eastwick, which had only the return of Paul Gross gong for it -- we may yet see those last 5 episodes on ABC sooner than the network execs planned.

What ABC really ought to do is dump Eastwick now, rerun the first 8 episodes of Defying Gravity in the Eastwick time slot (AND give the show some real promotion) and then segue right into the last 5 episodes to round out the rest of the fall season. And then it ought to order up another 24 episodes for season 2, which would mean rebuilding those sets in a hurry. But that assumes that there's anyone with functioning brains left in the ABC programming hierarchy ... I guess we'll see.

Hey mrtraska I like your way of thinking!

I gave up on the series already..

I don't know if mr Parriot is the current writer of this series but if he is, he is definitely a lousy one..

13 episodes so far, meaning something like 520 minutes of airtime of which about 480 minutes is flashback! This guy obviously has/had no clue what the series was going to be about and he had no cue how to create characters. Every simple little detail that a character does needs to be explained with a flashback into the finest detail.

This is ridiculous!.. Either start your series 5 years ago and build your characters, or explain them briefly and develop them in the current time. Now the series had become irritating and annoying, jumping from past to present and back constantly. I'm never going to invest time in mr Parriot series ever again.

In episode 11 or 12 he even writes a flashback within a flashback!.. (the dark saltwater tank experience) How low can you go as a writer?

Apparently the writer does not keep up with current series, otherwise he would have known that Lost also went down the drain because of all the backflashes and lack of progress in the series.

I'm happy the series is gone and sincerely hope the writer never gets to waste our time with other 'creations'. He should stick with short stories.

Basically, some guy saw workers at a stage he thought to be the dg one and they were dismantling something. Definition of a "rumor" for me.

I'm not saying it's unlikely... but not a confirmation.

If you read on, you find out that the writer James P. had two seasons already written up and he is sad to see the end of defying gravity stating that if it were the shows second season it could have weathered through. What a crock! This show was great, had amazing potential and I know so many people who are peeved that it has been cancelled. How many other new shows have been cut? I knew when they placed it on a Friday night that it was doomed. Shows like this and Ugly Betty just as an example have plummeted in ratings and are now being cancelled simply because of time of air. I think these networks have a resoponsibility to the viewers to continue this show. Look what it did for Star Trek!
