Planet Of The Apes already had a prequel

Looking at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th movie of the original series the apes fixed the ship and went back in time. Went back before apes ruled the earth.
Does anyone else see this but me.
Even if this does still count as a prequel, how would it fit in the line up? Inbetween the 2nd and 3rd film? or at the end of the 5th?

It's an alternate timeline. One could also say that Battle of the Planet of the Apes messed up the timeline, since the apes and humans live together happily ever after at the end of that one. Which makes me wonder, if Taylor's ship crashed after the events of that 5th movie, what would have happened?

I think this is ok because the 3rd, 4th & 5th films are sequels, rather than prequels, to the first two, given the altered timeline created by the apes travelling back in time...

As for this film, I was going to say you could maybe view it as sort of a prequel to the original film, but then no - the Icarus mission is shown as one to Mars, which the mission in the original clearly wasn't - plus as per conquest, the Ape revolution time-frame doesn't match up.

However, Beneath can't really be viewed as a sequel to the original either because Brent is on a rescue mission after Taylor, which is clearly nonsense as the original mission was an exploratory one way mission.

Therefore given Beneath has to be in a different continuity where a rescue mission makes sense, perhaps you can view Rise as a prequel to Beneath, where something went wrong with that Icarus' Mars mission!

So the correct viewing order is:-

Rise, Dawn, War, Beneath, Escape, Conquest, Battle.

The original and 2001 are stand-alones...

It's not a prequel - It's a reboot. Take everything you know from the original series of movies, and forget all that. This is a new story line starting from the beginning instead of half way through.

ok. thank you for clarifying. i had never heard of a reboot until now. thanks for that insight.

This is NOT in any way shape or form a prequel, sequel or alternate timeline to other movies. It's simply a new adaptation of the original Novel, just like the older movies were.

You are putting way too much thought into POTA movies.
