CGI takes away original charm

Reason I liked the original Planet of the Apes was because I felt a connection to the real actors playing the apes. I don't think this should be allowed to have the same name. I don't have any connection with the CGI images in this film.

Those are "real actors" playing the apes in this movie too. And in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as in the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes.

I feel the same way :/ all the effort invested in the original series is really above all these CGIs :s

CGI does not mean they pulled it out of their asses with no effort.

reply

I didn't say they did pull it out their asses with no effort.
If you read what I actually said, I said it takes it away from the charm of the original films. I don't feel the same connection to fake CGI as when you can feel more coming from the actor than a computer.

This is the first comment you've made here. Unless you have multiple accounts.

But how else do you want to do it ???:D

I think the original Planet of the Apes is great, and the men/women in suits definitely have their charm. However, this movie looked more realistic and wouldn't have been possible in 1968. They probably could have achieved even more realism if they were mixing real apes with CGI, so if anything, that would be the route I would have preferred. Still, I think this is the best Ape movie since the original. (Haven't seen Dawn yet.)

"It doesn't do anything. That's the beauty of it."

Fun fact: since the makeup took so long, the actors in the original wore their costumes to lunch. Someone noticed that in the commissary all the actors playing gorillas sat together, the chimps sat together, etc.

Human nature.
