Crush on cousin?

In the preview for the next episode it talked about the older brother having a crush on Ruby, and they're cousins... What the heck?

reply

Yeahhh that's really creepy

reply

Yeah I thought the same thing... kind of an awkward direction to take the characters.

We won't say our goodbyes, you know it's better that way.

reply

Definately.

Maybe he's adopted? Lol I don't know.

reply

I'm actually waiting for late in the series us finding out that Ruby isn't actually David's daughter. I don't know why, I'm just really seeing that happening.

reply

I don't know. It is kind of creepy. But you have to remember that they didn't grow up together. And he's a teenager with a lot of hormones. What is a guy to do? LOL!

reply

Do you blame him? If she was my cousin I'd have a crush on her too.

OwlCityforever: Well, on Arrested Development (AMAZING show), George Michael was attracted to his cousin Maeby. However, in the end it turns out they weren't really related. So no incest after all :) But it was more funny/cute than creepy.

reply

teenvintage: Do you think George Michael will still have a crush on Maeby in the movie?

I'm still on the fence about them being related, so I'm not weirded out yet.

@OwlCityforever: No cousins dated in That 70's Show. If you've ever seen that particular crush-on-cousin episode, Eric's cousin (what's her name) comes to visit the family after years of not seeing them since she was a little kid and of course she's a total babe and notices Eric kind of has the hots for her so she convinces him that she's adopted so she starts flirting with him. Well, this continues throughout the entire episode up til the last fifteen minutes when (SPOILER ALERT AHEAD) Eric's cousin has Eric watch a movie with her down in the basement while they're wearing their pajamas (shirt and panties for her and manties for Eric) when Kitty and Red find them like this in total shock and the cousin jumps up and tells Kitty and Red that she's scared because Eric was trying to put the moves on her. That's when Eric tells Kitty and Red that the cousin told him that she's adopted to which Kitty states furiously that the cousin isn't adopted because she watched her mother give birth to her. Turns out, the reason why Eric's cousin tricked him, was to get back at him for pulling a prank on her as kids.

Thanks for the explanation! I was trying to figure out when a character on That 70's Show had a crush on their cousin and I couldn't remember. That explains it, but it shouldn't count because I'm sure the storyline only lasted one episode (like the Friends episode with Denise Richards). The crush on cousin storyline seems like an on going thing that will either end at some point or continue, if he thinks there is the slightest possibility that they are not related.

There was also that episode on "Friends" where Ross hit on his cousin.

reply

you guys don't watch soaps, do you....lol...

a lot of cousin and half-brother crushing, and even a marriage on one of them that's gone around in the past 10 years or so

maybutler, I watched AD too. And this totally reminded me of George Michael and Maeby!

reply

I think it is/could be a funny storyline. And it makes sense, they didn't grow up together after all.
A part of me wants Jordan and Ruby to be unrelated, but I think it'd be better if he just eventually got over the crush.

I just saw a preview for a part in a episode where she asks him to zip up her dress. And he got all flustered and stuff. Idk, I got a totally creepy vibe from that knowing they're cousins.

reply

Saw the preview too and was a bit irked. That 70's Show and Arrested Development can get away with it, but isn't this geared towards the younger viewers? Seems really weird and creepy to go in this direction.

reply

I just saw the new episode tonight and I thought they pulled it off okay. I found the whole thing to be quite hilarious actually. Mostly because Jordan knows it's weird that he likes his cousin, yet he can't help it. I'm guessing they'll either make him get over it or it turns out they're not related somehow.

reply

I'm with ya. What the heck indeed. Very odd, very creepy. Very good way to always make sure there is a fresh plot.

Well, marriage of first cousins is legal in many states and there's a bit of a phenomena that blood relatives who grow up apart from each-other feel sexual attractions when they do meet.

Admittedly, it is a bit weird

reply

had the show gone on longer, maybe they would have revealed that while Jordan is Patrick's son and Ruby is David's daughter, it turns out that either Patrick or David was adopted and that Ruby and Jordan were not related after all.
