Stupid Movie/Fake Coast Guard

Full of inconsistencies - US Coast Guard officers in non-Coast Guard uniforms. Coast Guard rescue coordination center (in a dark room?) bases their search on "assumptions" and guess work. No water tight doors on the boat. Last guy off the boat didn't bring the flares from the bridge, or the flashlight he was hugging up until he finally found a "gumby suit." The storm/abandonment of the boat was a knock off of Perfect Storm; swinging rigging, broken antenna wire, the dimmist strobes I've ever seen on a "gumby suit," et al (Perfect Storm, other crappy movie BTW). When will Hollywood make a decent, factual Coast Guard movie. Even Guardian was a pathetic movie (could they make Kurcher's shirt any smaller?) And, three hours in the Bering Sea?

I don't believe this was intended to be a Coast Guard movie. It is about a fishing boat.

reply

Agreed - still a crappy movie. I've been both a commercial fisherman in Alaska, and a US Coast Guardsman in Alaska.

reply

Maybe not the best movie but the actual story is heartbreaking...

There are plenty of movies about true events that are all fact and true. We call them "documentaries".

But even in non-documentary film, you have seriously low standards if the words "based on a true story" mean so little to you. Those words SHOULD actually mean something. The audience should not have to go out and re-write, re-edit, or re-shoot the thing themselves (and typically, if you do that, you get sued).
