Empty board is empty

Is this movie really that unpopular? The seating I went to in Sweden was full. (only 49 seats, but hey, beats an empty cinema.)

Most people seemed to like it. I thought it was a bit boring, I was expecting a much greater twist than what the movie provided. Overall, nice effects though.

I watched it yesterday and thought it was alright and I really don't like spanish films. Shame it was a boxoffice flop here in Spain.

reply

It only got a limited cinema release outside Spain so not many people have even seen it yet. When the DVD with English subs is released this July, the board will start to get some activity.

that was wishful thinking

I think that the problem with this film is that it's too small. They tried to steal the shine from Elena Anaya's fame, - who gives a strong performance by the way - but the film in itself it too low-budget and a bit slow to become a smash hit. But only the star was not enough to raise the interest of this film. All the places -except for the aquarium at the beginning- look cheap, sad and dirty.

It had one good scene, the fight in the caravan, which was reminiscent of a similar scene in "Kill Bill 2"

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

reply

Yeah me too. I immediately thought Kill Bill 2.

It was the only dumb scene.

A very low rent Kill Bill 2.

It was a small release in Spain and went almost unnoticed. Mind you, Spanish cinema is almost always a flop in Spain and it never catches any attention (sometimes, deservedly so) from movie-goers, unless it's some sleazy comedy like "Torrente" and the likes. I agree that it is a little boring and too slow-paced sometimes, but it's a good movie (in my opinion) and it deserved more attention than it got.

I hope it does/did better outside Spain than it did domestically.

why is that? Spain makes some excellent films.

The first half is pretty good with the story quite compelling, but from the moment she climbed in the back of the utility, the story, for me anyway, began to run off the rails and never regained them. And yes, we find out "the big twist", is quite likely what many of us thought all along.
