Enchanting, Hypnotic, Poetic

It should serve as an inspiration to all aspiring and young directors that wish to be heard amongst today’s formulaic drone. It is filmmaking beyond its finest. What a pleasure.

This film is very much of a piece with "Khadak," which I have also seen and liked. Both have beautiful, entrancing visuals, a strong current of mysticism, and a sensitive treatment of the indigenous people. The portrayal of overweening Western mining interests in this film is rather heavy-handed -- not unlike the obtuse governmental authorities in "Khadak" -- but counterbalanced by the more nuanced eye doctors and especially the woman photographer, whose suffering bonds her with the Turubamba natives despite their differences in culture and language.

Looking forward to more work from this filmmaking duo. I hope their best is yet to come.
