...that the last time the girlfriend or wife appeared was actually the real her, who, by means that are not shown in the movie, has been looking for his traces in the forest?
Suspension of disbelieve required, she could have been looking for him desperately all over the area, saw the car somehow and we know what happened next.
I thought they would show her dead body out there or show her car parked by the road...would have been a better ending and a better twist, for a very mediocre and senseless movie that felt like "Unknown" (the one with J.Caviezel and G. Kinnear) meets "127 hours" IMHO.

Interesting idea but not likely.
She was still wearing the exact same outfit; did his hallucinations include precognitive déjà vus?

Same outfit she had when he was kidnapped.
No déjà vu required though.
