Visual style?

Has there been any information released about whether Tarr will be departing from his signature visual style with this production? The relatively short shoot (35 days) and the relatively long period set aside for post (several months) suggest that he might be.

hmm, interesting question. I would say no though, as Tarr's actual principle photography isn't necessarily all that lengthy. Those long takes actually take less time to capture than shooting short scenes from various angles and piecing them together later. It's the pre-production rehearsals that take time to get the performances and choreography right.
The lengthy post stage though is curious however. I don't recall if they stated that it was going to take that much time in post or if it was just confirmed to be ready for distribution by such and such a date - May I think wasn't it? Which leads me to believe that Tarr is just looking to have the film ready for Cannes.

35 days is very short, though, in comparison to his last two films. And you're right about the sequence shot style demanding lengthy preproduction. That's another point: did that take place this time? I heard nothing about it...

I think the official statement was that it'd be 'ready' by April, which is the deadline for Cannes submission, so you're probably right.

I doubt he'll be straying far, but the conditions of this film's production do seem quite different to his last two.

And there is this reported mention of the film being "very small":

Though I suppose that doesn't necessarily come to bear on the visual style. It's just all these little things that add up to make me uncertain.

post production will no doubt include time to dub the film, sound effects, music, and mastering. it all takes a long time.

It's set almost entirely in one (very small) location. Aside from a couple of shots/scenes there would have been none of the usual packing up and setting up at a different place that can slow production.

Now that its out, many of us have seen it.

I just watched it. The only other Bela Tarr film I have seen is Wreckmeister Harmonies, and it had a similar style and feel. However, less characters and locations.

An interesting film no doubt. Very haunting.
