The absolute last scenes

I liked the movie, it was original and the acting was pretty good.
But in the last few scenes, where the main character goes back to hug his mom.
Dude. You have a hole leading into your brain and several other severe injuries. Who in their right mind would not immediately go to a hospital. And assuming he isn't in his right mind, why would Holly (girlfriend) not insist on it?
Just broke down the ending for me.
