Typical traits of Hallmark movies *spoilers*

It's uncanny how the movies on Hallmark (sometimes on Lifetime as well) follow the same, basic storyline. Don't get me wrong - they are nice, feel-good movies - but you can telegraph how the story will end from a mile away. Some of the traits include:

- Story takes place in some picturesque, smallish town
- Boy meets girl
- Characters work in offices which are excessively quaint
- Some obstacle exists which prevents boy and girl from realizing their love
- Obstacle is removed and boy and girl end up together in some fantasy-like ending

At least they are watchable, and watchable with my daughter and my mother! I am SO grateful for sources of entertainment that is not in the gutter. [In fairness, occasionally Disney does the same, and A & E is usually pretty good, and the PBS stations that show British comedy and drama are worthwhile.]

I am SICK of movies that use the F-WORD as though it is natural to hear! I cringe when I hear it! If it comes up in a book, I toss the book! If it is in a movie, I walk out! That kind of vulgar language is not part of my life, and I never hear it aside from "Hollywood" stuffing it down my ear-drums!

[If I were ever in a meeting, or socializing with someone who used that word, I would walk away and exclude that person from my circle! Life is too short for vulgarity! In real life, I never hear the world and see no reason why I should have to tolerate it in movies or books; services that I am PAYING FOR!!!!]

I am SICK of movies with bottle blonds, wearing fake (hanging grapefruit) breasts, taking ridiculous “showers” that involve much water running and constantly soaping their neck and shoulders!

I am SICK of movies with obligatory sex scenes between virtual strangers; they know nothing about each other, but are chancing getting STDs (from mouths, to genitals, to everywhere! [They are actually passing STD's around, in real life, according to Hollywood dentists.] UGH! No thanks! That isn't "art" that is vulgarity! And, I refuse to lower my standards to tolerate or integrate with Hollywood's current lack of standards!

It is a crying shame that the old "studio system" (that FORCED STARS to be better than they ever thought they could be without guidance) is gone; many stars could benefit from that kind of guidance today! Some specific names come to mind!

again i agree w/another post about this movies and others - i have 2 boys so its diff for me..but i love to sit down and watch a feel good movie so that i can forget about my everyday probs that i have -- for one thing i'm disable (on disablity) i really can't sit and watch a movie in a theater bc i have spine trouble, migraines, forgetfullness, etc etc - hell i can't even drive anymore bc of my condition so when movies like this come along and i have a chance to forget my problems (although my pain still there) i don't hesitate to watch.. also not having to deal the F-word every movie is a nice change -- i do watch online movies that are at the cinema bc i can't afford nor enjoy movies if i can't sit not stand for long -- i'm using a rolling walker to get around so this is why i watch movies like - magic mike, batman begins, ted - remember my boys are much older so they can watch as well - but mostly i put the earphones on and watch; but hallmark movies are my fave -- lifetime as well but sometimes THEY are the cheesy movies - but sometimes i'm surprised and their are great movies on lifetime -- i watched fatal flaw the other day and by my surprise it wasn't that bad-- i watched it on the lifetime online website by the way.... i get what i can take, bu marla NEVER lets me down, i love every movie she's made - also ABC Family movies aren't too bad as well... sorry so long

There are only maybe 5 or 6 basic plot lines in these "Hallmances", I call them. They all revolve around the usual "Boy meets girl, loses, gets back" trope. They include 1)"Fish out of Water",2) One committed to another, falls for a quirky person or person they initially dislike, 3)Mean family try to break it up, 4)Pretend to be married or engaged, 5)time-slip, 6)clash over other big issue (usually a business closing down). Often they are combinations of the above.

In other words, they need new creative vision.

~After enjoying that movie, I figured I would drop by IMDB to read about its problems.

Well, as long as they are predictable and end happily! Oh. forgot one: Make-over/ugly duckling.
