Atleast a Oscar Nomination for Soundtrack!!

I found the Soundtrack is exceptional. So i came rushing back to imdb profile to see any awards for soundtrack... Bit Disappointing...

Anybody felt the same ????

There are films including this one, Gods and Monsters and Maurice featuring beautiful soundtracks not unlike a lot of classical music items, which appear to go largely unnoticed by the majority of the Saturday afternoon popcorn crowd which, let's be honest, is often associated with the bulk of the movie revenue. Granted Maurice did win a Golden Osella for music although it's probable very few members of the world's population are aware of that fact.

As well, even today, a film representing this content of specific relationships may be prevented from mainstream exposure and/or acceptance in many cases. Perhaps it follows that in at least some minds, the associated music might also be considered unacceptable.

Sorry.. never heard of Golden Osella ... Is it bigger or honorable ??

reply

The Golden Osella award is usually presented on an irregular basis in various categories at the very prestigious Venice International Film Festival.

I agree. I loved the soundtrack. The movie, for me, was sort of meh, but the music was so beautiful. The strings in the scenes where he is driving, or watching the neighbor kids...almost transcendent.

And might I add,for 'Best Art Direction' or at least, 'Best Cinematography'? It's a shame there were no nominations for the film under these categories.

Love is twisted;we can fall for the most unlikely people

Amazing score. It's a shame it wasn't nominated. I'm still shocked "The Tree of Life"'s score wasn't even nominated, that was one of the best scores of the last few years (no surprise, as all of Terrence Malick's films have incredible music).

reply

Exactly.

reply

But with "The Tree of Life", the majority of Alexandre Desplat's score didn't even make the film. The majority of the film's music was the classical pieces Malick and his music supervisors chose.

As for "A Single Man", it is very disheartening that this wasn't a Score nominee, moreso when you see what was up for the award that year. Apart from "Up" - and even that one's place is "questionable" - any of those scores could have been taken out in and "A Single Man" could have easily gotten the nomination and even the win if the Weinsteins had put a little more focus on it.

reply

I couldn't agree more. I love soundtracks, listen to lots of then and this is one of my favourites ever. It is incredibly moving and I believe that not only it should have been nominated, but also won.

The music, by Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski, is indeed excellent. It reminded me very much of composer Bernard Herrmann, especially in his treatment of the strings. There's a haunting quality reminiscent of Hitchcock's "Vertigo."

Ok. I just logged in to reply.

It probably did not get nominated because, don't get me wrong, it was good, it sounds like a close rip off of the incredible soundtrack of 'The Fountain'. Not one but more than two of its soundtrack are 95% sounds exactly like those score of The Fountain composed by Clint Mansell.

Why you people stuck to 2006 'The Fountain', really?

I'd say, try this, for. ex from 1997 - https://youtu.be/Y4dtufKD6dg
