This movie was so boring I wanted to kill myself

I went into this movie with full knowledge there were not going to be any high speed car chases (unless Jim was involved in one and the scene got deleted), explosions, bombs diffused with 2 seconds left or Bruce Willis taking out an army of bad guys in his bare feet. This movie was one big long snoozefest.

It's just Colin Firth standing around looking sad for an hour and a half. His inane narration did not help. Julianne Moore's over-the-top "Ab Fab" imitation and her grating fake laughter was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

And don't say I didn't get the subtleties. This movie was as subtle as a sledge hammer to the head.

I have nothing against Firth or Moore. This was just flat boring.

If anything, I wish we could've gone across the street and see what was happening with the wasted Ginnifer Goodwin.

SPOILER ALERT: Gay man's lover dies, he is sad, he dies. The End

Reading this almost made me fall asleep. Funnily enough I was highly captivated by the movie and didn't find it boring for a single second. :)

reply

LOL agree. some people are just not emotionally and mentally in shape enough to understand the films message

reply

Thank you, Doctor Phil.

I am agreeing with ReelDeal-2. And before you guys call me emotionally retarded or imply I have no sentimental feelings, I actually do, and I have in many a film felt somewhat emotional or affected by viewing various movies. But this??? OmG, it was borrrrrinnngggg. No, I didnt expect much, but I didnt get much back either. Totally agree with the over the top AB FAB moment lol. This movie lacked something...it lacked many things in fact. Just came away thinking this was a boring 100minutes of my life.

reply

Oh, *beep* right off!

reply

Usually people who are ”bored" are themselves BORING. You’d probably find lots of things boring on the last day of your boring life. What a waste.

reply

I had a feeling while watching the DVD that hey my washing needs taking out the washer and put in the dryer, a sign that the movie is not holding me.

reply

I wish they were a little more in depth on his love life rather than showing him stare at the neighbors while he was on the sh*tter for 10 minutes.

reply

It follows the theme of his being "invisible".

I just paid a pretty penny for this DVD, and I'm a frugal person who buys few DVDs, and when I do, they're from the $4 bin at Wal-Mart. But I sprung for this one. That's how much I wanted to see it. Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, some rave reviews...and I think he was nominated for an acting award from some distinguished organization (I forget which one).

I am so disappointed. The movie was just downright boring. Even worse, it's melancholy and depressing. Everyone walking around thinking deep thoughts about what crap their lives are, and "what's it all about, Alfie?" Made me want to shake them all by their shoulders and tell them to quit being so narcissistic, and try to do something good in the world. Focus on some people (or animals) who have REAL problems.

It's also unbelievable. The writer wants us to believe that this middle aged man, while still very attractive, has not one, not two, but THREE very attractive people all going after him at the same time...well, it's just flat unbelievable.

(Besides which...there's the predictable beautiful woman who has lost the meaning of her life because, well, because she's just so gosh darned beautiful. what a shame.)

I hate to say it, but yawn.

reply

Of course it's melancholy and depressing! His partner of 16 years died and his best friend is in love with him and doesn't stand a chance! I'm not sure exactly what you were expecting if you already knew the plot. A rom-com?
If the death of someone's love is not a "real problem", I'm not sure what you think one is, then.

reply

I'm yawning right along with you guys. LMAO @ the AbFab comment!

Now u know why they call me Chicago Wind, fool.

reply

A really dry movie is what it is. I think it was fairly well done but you can only do so much with this story. I'm guessing a lot of people will like it a lot while others will keep thinking of what they'r having for breakfast the next morning.

A Single Man didn't get an Oscar nomination. The Oscar nomination was for Colin Firth for his brilliant acting in the film. He should have won too not someone who was 'due'

I wish they were a little more in depth on his love life rather than showing him stare at the neighbors while he was on the sh*tter for 10 minutes.

HAHAHAH

Also, the slow, meaningful, mid life crisis drama films always rate high, especially if pretty scenery is involved.

reply

No? That part was funny, it even had a punchline (he was watching through his open window for a while, then he was spotted and the neighbour waved)!

Great film. Glad it was made.

reply

SO boring that you watched it entirely.

That makes sense.

Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!

reply

I liked the movie, I thought he wasn't going to die so that made the ending good for me.... Aaand I'm a girl so seeing Colin Firth's legs during most of the movie was definitely not boring.
