so he cheated on the engineering competition and everyone cheers him on?

using lift from the balloons is totally cheating. c'mon!

reply

No, it's not.

Sounds like someone got outmaneuvered by another creative thinker.

telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

creative NOT. i could've set up a zip line across and "walk" over that way. for sure i will beat him but it's not creative. zero engineering challenge.

reply

His prof tells him it's not within the expected guidelines. Don't lose sleep over it. I'm sure he was disqualified.

reply

The prof said he wasn't sure it was in the "spirit" of the assignment. Thus, it is clear that Aaron didn't really violate any formal requirements, but rather was "thinking outside the box". It is really pointless to argue about the design without reading the actual problem description. And anyone thinking that the movie was about this "walking on water" engineering project should get a life.

reply

Again, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

reply

Then don't.

reply

Alright we won't, you goon

reply

I'm not even sure if it would work in reality the way it was designed. The balloons would keep him from sinking, but what breaks the inertia to allow him to move forward? He's got to be able to displace some amount of water because if he is weightless, there is no friction, without friction he cannot walk. The skis probably help, but he should be cutting into the water like walking with snowblades, not sliding like in XC where there are poles.

reply

this would not work. those balloons would not provide enough displacement to offset his weight. maybe a few dozen times that, with beth in the gear...
then you could have used his gliders like roller blades.

i don't think anyone was supposed to actually 'pass' though. people have been trying to walk on water for thousands of years.
