Could someone please tell me if there are any small things from the book that were left out? Did it say whether Queenie had any more children and whether Hortense and Gilbert had any children of their own? Lastly, in the book does Hortense ever learn that Michael was the baby's father? Just curious...thnx

shareIn Queenie's last narration in the book, she does say that she doesn't want to give her baby to an orphanage because then she'd never know what happened to him. She also says, "You might let me know how he was getting on. You might write to me and tell me."
The last segment of the TV production is not part of the book. But if I understand how it ends, Hortense didn't hide the baby's real mother. No doubt this was because Hortense's mother had made the same sacrifice that Queenie did. I'd like to think Hortense wanted to honor that sacrifice for both mothers' sakes.
