What country does it take place in?

I know it's never named, but just like how Call of Duty 4 takes place in Saudi Arabia (Google it), I figured Far Cry 2's devs at least had a country in mind while making the game.

Africa is a continent, not a country.

I think it's Sierra Leone. It has the senseless conflict, the diamond trade, and the varied landscape.

A guard does make a comment once about the country being landlocked though.

reply

Well there is a town called Pala in Far Cry 2 and since this game takes place in Africa it would be Pala, Chad.

Its a fictional country. However, the dev team went to Kenya for research, so in a way... its Kenya...

It has all the hallmarks of the Central African Republic:

-Landlocked.
-Has a combination of deserts, jungle, savannah, running rivers...
-Has rebel factions.
-Had a wealthy king, whose son (and presumably other children) have no intention of returning to rule.
-Has Left Hand Drive.
-Diamond mines.
-It's flag contains a star, and a star can be seen in one faction's "flag".
-Was colonised by a European nation.

Other contenders include the northern portion of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire), Uganda, and Burundi.
