The ending... I don't get it

Ok, first off after you enter the prison before the Heart of Darkness suddenly the Jackal is a good guy and you believe it immediately.

Then, when I went to pick up the diamonds for the Jackal all my buddies I ever had were there. At this point in the game I had only one alive buddy but suddenly all my buddies are there. People killed before I moved south are there and people who got killed in regular fire-fights are there.

Can anyone explain this to me?

P.S. Loved the game despite than the ending.

The moment is structured that way.

They were only listed as "missing" so wern't dead, and if you remember, before you escaped the prison, your buddy tells you that they think you are betraying them and taking the diamonds for yourself, they obviously escape themselves and tell the other buddies that you are double crossing them, hence they are attacking you.

The endings are the same really, you see the mountain explode and Reuben taking photos, but you do not see the Jakal or yourself either way.

Definately no different endings for characters, as I've played as both Marty and Andre and they were the same (different choice each time of course) I'm guessing it will be the same no mater what your side mission choices were.

I could believe the Jackal...never really saw him as a "bad guys" from the start.
I was extremely pissed over having to fight all the buddies. That was totally unbelievable and ~SPOILERS ON ANOTHER GAME~
a blatant copy of the lame ending of their last big title, Assassin's Creed.
I was satisfied with the final ending, at least it made a statement rather than one of the cheap, leave it open for a sequel deals

I was really gutted my buddies turned on me.
Frank was my best buddy, and I couldn't take it on myself to kill him, so I just grabbed the diamonds and ran! Killed the other two, though - backstabbing bastards :D

I was playing as Frank,i couldnt bring myself to kill Nasreen Davar and the guy who looks like George Clooney, with the bullets. But i burned Xiong and Paul Ferenc and the american guy. Then another one of my best buddies, the women with the green t-shirt with the APR logo on it,She was always a good buddy,But since she wanted to kill me,I stuck my machete into her stomach,Left Nasreen and George Clooney to live or bleed to death :)

I kept all my buddies alive, so that resulted in a huge gun battle which left everybody dead. The odd thing was, the Haitian guy and Nasreen Davar weren't there, and they were listed as still alive after the battle. I liked to think they still trusted me (I was playing as Paul Ferenc btw).

The buddies I found hardest to kill were Josip (because he was the first buddy I found, and I'd kept him alive during some really intense gun battles he'd constantly get himself in) and Hakim (he had a family in Nigeria who needed the money badly or they'd starve to death).

Xiongbai was an ar$ehole, so I blew his head off at point blank range with the M249 at the start of the battle. The Cuban chick almost killed me when I took shelter in the hut nearby, but it only took two shots from the AR15 to finish her off. Quarbani Singh was with her, and I killed him with a single shot to the head a split second after shooting her.
