Do you believe in the Devil?

I don't want to, but I think I do believe there is a Devil. Just like I believe there is a God...

How about you?

reply

I don't know. That's the most honest answer I can give. I can think there is or I can think there isn't. But in the end, the truth is I don't know.

reply

No. I don't believe in either.

reply

Definetly.

reply

truth is no one knows

reply

Look, there is no evidence for god or the devil. Those that say there isn't haven't looked into. Proff requires more than feelings and maybe and I don't know.

reply

How about the scientific fact that it's impossible for something to come from nothing? Therefore, for the world to exist, there would need to be someone or something who created it. Otherwise we would still have absolutely nothing in existence. This doesn't prove that something is, without a shadow of a doubt, God, but it definitely supports the possibility he exists.

I believe he exists and does twist people's thoughts and emotions on a daily basis, and if not him then the loads of demons that are sure to be around doing his dirty work as he is not omnipresent as God is.

reply

Firstly, it is most certainly not a scientific fact that it's impossible for something to come from nothing.
Don't worry if that seems counter-intuitive to you. Many things about this universe seem counter-intuitive to us humans.

Secondly, if it were true, then where did God come from? God (something) couldn't have come from nothing, right? So, who or what created God? Super-God? And what created Super-God? Mega-God? And so on. Forever.

I'm sorry, but your logic is as flawed as your knowledge.

Where would the creator come from?

reply

Pssst, there is no invisible man in the sky, no Easter Bunny either.

I love when people who don't believe in something claim its non-existence with such ardent certainty (as if knowing for certain is even possible). For most who do that, it becomes painfully obvious that they are doing so mostly as a self-affirmation...meaning they are trying to convince themselves more than anyone else. Someone who truly doesn't believe in something doesn't care enough about it to bother.

reply

lol its hard to believe in something that you cant see or to be blinded by everything when its right in front of us. Science basically proves that God exist.

"what are you a gay fish?"

reply

That may be one of the stupidest comments I've read in a while. Care to back up your laughable statement?

reply

No crap, if anything, science just proves how ridiculous the primitive beliefs in god are. The oddest thing is, most people who don't accept the fact we come from a more primitive ancestor behave the most primitively in their beliefs by believing in a god.

reply

If I take your statement literally, then I'll point out that you said primitive beliefs in God. The thing about Science is that it begets more questions than it answers. Guys like Stephen Hawking, Einstein, Newton are the new prophets... and if you don't think that their work is another type of search for God... you should look carefully at what they are studying and why.

reply

[deleted]

Do not know about Hawking but Isaac and Albert did.

reply

[deleted]

Lol... Einstein most certainly did. Search it deeper before you make ignorant claims like that.

reply

Hawking's an anti-theist.

Einstein was agnostic, not a believer.

Newton lived in the 16th/ 17th centuries. Really not his fault.

reply

Sorry, should've been 17th/ 18th.

reply

Unwittingly searching for something (or its absence) is not believing.

May thy blade chip and shatter...

reply

idk whats more laughable my statement or you putting STUPIDEST??
"what are you a gay fish?"

reply

Both are made up so it makes no difference.

reply

hahahaha, good call.

reply

No, that's a very bad call.

reply

trust us, your statement is the MOST STUPID

reply

I doubt even a scientist who believes a god exists would agree with that statement.

Only the closed mind is certain.

I've got an incorporeal fire-breathing dragon in my garage. You can't tell me it doesn't exist because it's there... you just can't see, hear, smell, or touch it. You can't know for sure that it's not, so you'd be crazy to dismiss it.

reply

Burden of proof falls on those making the claim of the existence of something unseen. I can say with certainty I don't believe in unicorns, fairies, genies, or flying spaghetti monsters either.

Atheists are put under a lot of pressure for not believing in myths. We're told we should be forced to be a certain religion. We're told we're undateable because we have no morals. In the US, Christians try to indoctrinate our children in schools, enshrine Christian beliefs in our laws, and mark our courthouses and other government spaces as Christian territory with Christian symbols.

Yes, we do have to "bother" with other people's fantastical claims. I wish we could just live our lives, but some people refuse to mind their own business and let us mind ours.

reply

Yes, I do.

reply

Not a bad question, but no. Then again, one can't be 100% certain. Maybe you're the devil...actually, I think if there were a devil, it would definitely be L.R. Hubbard reincarnated as Miscavige.

The best trick the Devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist. The Devil does exist. And he is leading the world into a new Dark Age...

reply

[deleted]

he preys on human fallibility and encourages evil.

reply

Yes. I do.

reply

This is also what I believe. And to whoever says that the devil is just a scapegoat to blame everything on, this is not necessarily true. We have the power to resist the devil's influence, so if we give in and do evil, we are still responsible for that choice. It is not a way to exonerate your evil behavior, you can always choose good.

reply

So many delicious thoughts, I just might have to eat them all.

reply

This whole concept about the devil is confusing. For satanists, he is a rebellious being who encourages individualism and believing in yourself. Some feel he is god's "right hand man" who just wants to test you and for others he is just plain evil... confusing

reply

Dark Ages, like when everyone believed the bible was true.

reply

It's not logical: if Devil punishes bad people, than the Devil should be something good, right? Like a prison?
So, both Devil and God do the same thing: punish the bad people?

The hole religion thing has too many holes in its script.

reply

Yeah, that is a weird idea. The devil should be promoting that stuff and propping those folks up instead. He should be going after Mother Teresas rather--the devil will try to kill you/torture you, etc. if you're good, but he'll party with you if you're bad.

Obviously, though, the idea is that the devil is a personification of "wrongdoing" and the supposed negative consequences you'll be faced with if you're not good. But if we take the personification more literally, it doesn't work well.

More people believed the devil existed in the Dark ages than at any other time. Creating another dark age seems like a dumb way to get people not to believe in you.

Only the closed mind is certain.

Gimmie a break you think times now are worse than say the times of the Black Plague? Talk to someone who lived during WW2. THIS is your dark age? what are you like 20?

Straight out of the Buybull.

From what a can gather this so called devil (Light Bringer, perhaps a reference to being enlightened? or it could be a reference to being the brightest planet in the solar system Venus?) was an angel and created by God (perhaps the Sun?) to do his work.

The Devil rebelled against God and tried to take his place along with a few others as they did not like what he/it was doing don't exactly know why. So God cast him down to Earth (perhaps this could be a comet or meteor?) (I have no idea if earth and hell are the same place it makes no sense) because the Devil did not like being Gods slave or second in command (I suppose).

Does this make this fallen angel evil, I have no idea... maybe if it does exist it's just like the rest of us and has flaws.

Personally I think that this story is just that, a story based on ancient beliefs probably pagan or based around old beliefs in planet and sun gods... and the heavens (stars and crap in the sky) that they did not fully understand back then.

So no I don't believe in the Devil as depicted in this film...

reply

I am the devil.

reply

No, I do not. Even if I were religious, I would certainly not believe in something as illogical and childish as a Devil.

reply

What makes the belief in a devil any more childish than believing the world came into existence out of nowhere? In terms of understanding our purpose on this planet and the very reason why we are born, live, and die, we might as well all be children. None of us has the answers to these questions, and all we can do is try to fill the gaps with what we do believe. Some choose to believe nothing, others acknowledge they don't know, and others give their life to faith. Either way you choose, no one has any proof that their path is the correct one. So I find it ironic that someone who is just as mortal and human as me can tell me I'm childish for my beliefs when there is absolutely zero proof for his own.

reply

Wouldn't your God have to "come into existence out of nowhere" lest he be a creation himself?

There are 10 types of people- those who can understand binary, and those who can't.

reply

God was always there. Open up your mind. we know death. God doesn't know death because He was always there. Sit down and ponder that. He decided to create the universe and boom here we are today awaiting his return.
