The little girl.

She was my favorite. So deadpan with everything, yet so cute. Her voice, the one facial expression (well, except for that half of a half of a smile at the end during the b-day song) She seemed very mature for her years, or most kids in that culture this way. It was sweet watching the housemaid and her interact.

The little girl was taught to be serious and give nothing away in a screwy family that kept all its secrets and seemed to revel in plotting revenge against wrong-doers. Her seriousness was indicative more of the little girl's somewhat "abnormal" mental state (seemed to me) that it was of the fact that she just happened to have an unusually glum, dour temperament.
The poor thing just did NOT look happy !

The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from with that POV also.

The girl was awfully repressed, wasn't she? I felt sorry for her (the character).
