She wasn't the first/isn't last victim...

This may be obvious, but I think its worth mentioning (also contributing to the darkness of the whole film) that it seemed she wasn't the first nor will be the last "victim" of that family.. That entire scene of the woman committing suicide at the beginning (her story unknown), the vetting process that the older Housemaid conducted prior to her employment, the maid clothes that fit her (b/c they hire only younger women), the fact that the older housemaid/mother-in-law's actions seemed almost rehearsed with knowing what to do, the fact that the housemaid quit because she finally had seen enough ruined lives... And then by the end of the film with the new housemaids at the daughter's birthday party being the exact same type, which were young attractive females. All of this seems to represent the hopelessness of the poor and adds to the whole invulnerability concept of the rich. Very dark film..

I thought the same thing when I saw the film as well, particularly with the new housemaids at the end. It was obvious to me that Hoon's privileged upbringing and extravagant lifestyle has taught him nothing but manipulation and that "common" people are nothing. Undoubtedly this trend will continue for the rest of his life, with his wife eventually growing to accept the fact that her lifestyle comes at a price...her dignity.

You'd have to think the prologue suicide victim is likely to be another housemaid caught up in the same seedy sort of situation.🐭
