Is refusal to be served based on the national origin legal in France?

I mean it's illegal in US to be discriminated if you're black or a Jew. Could a shop legally do that in France?

reply

Of course it's not legal, but authorities often turn a blind eye to these practices in view of the magnitude of the clandestine immigrants issue, especially in Paris.

reply

Yeah, French officially don't see race, don't even tally it in its census. But in reality they can be a racist bunch, aren't they ?

reply

Being clandestine mean they should not be there. Their basic rights/human rights are of course guaranteed, but for the rest they don't technically have rights. They're called "illegals" in the US for a reason.

In the UK they ban French youth (legally there) in some shops (because of thievery).
