Are the Sea Beasts based on H.P. Lovecraft's Deep Ones?

These things look pretty much exactly like Lovecraft described. He notes them as being amphibious, and some of the Mythos credits them with a long, semi-prehensile tongue. They're noted as being able to camouflage themselves (though perhaps not to the point of near-invisibility). They even display the same kind of alien intelligence that Lovecraft ascribed to them.

So... yeah... Deep Ones?
