Hugh Grant looks old and weak in this movie

Hugh Grant was brilliant in "About A Boy" and maybe even better in "Notting Hill". "Music And Lyrics" was so-so, but in this movie, he looked as old as a 50 year old man. That's what he is. One of the most boring and stupid movies of the year. Better luck next time, Hugh. You only make one movie a year, so your movie in 2010 should be better.

More like wide.

as opposed to young and weak in all of his previous movies?

Watching Jerry Seinfeld on SNL last week (Jerry and Seth - Really?), it occurred to me that all actors (not actresses) get thicker as they get older. So? It's especially noticeable when you see actors who were stick figures when they were younger (Jerry looked like a sophomore in college when he was supposed to be in his late 20s, early 30s)
Hugh Grant was model thin when he was younger. Probably because he did model at least once during his career.
People get older, they get a little bit thicker. IMO, he's still one hot guy!

I agree, he's still an attractive man. In a few scenes, he looked a bit tired; however, he still appears to be charming.

reply

I don't consider 50 old, but I would go even further, I think Hugh Grant has always acted like a befuddled old man.

reply

I agree... and the effect is only compounded when he's standing next to Sam Elliott, who's SIXTY FIVE in this movie and looks about twice as fit and strong...

reply

Perhaps, he's been ill or had a stressful situation in his life. That will age you and mess up your hormonal system. Not all folks age in the same manner.

reply

It's a good thing you will never be old and weak OP.

Focker, out.

reply

It didn't help that he didn't once un-hunch his shoulders the entire movie.

At first I thought he was acting the depressed want-to-get-back-together role but as the movie carries on he continued to look ill, flabby faced and watery eyed. He may have been on some sort of drugs. I had a friend on steroidal treatment and he looked the same. A quick look a google for answers and found this:

"..Hugh is speaking in Los Angeles after taking two years off from acting – turning down all offers of work following his 2007 movie Music and Lyrics alongside Drew Barrymore.

The reason for his partial retirement, he reveals, was a series of crippling panic attacks which forced him to rely on heavy doses of prescription drugs to keep calm.

While making Music and Lyrics, in which he played faded pop star Alex Fletcher, he had “four or five terrible panic attacks,” and adds: “I did the whole film full of lorazepam” – a drug used to treat anxiety disorders.

“It was scary. When I got back home I put Post-it notes around my computer saying, ‘Accept no more films.’”

But he was persuaded to return for the comedy Did You Hear About The Morgans? – out on January 1 – after seeking out a variety of different therapies.

“I went to every shrink in London,” he says. “I had every treatment – I had a man oscillate something in front of my eyes and another man who stabbed me in the arm."
