Hugh Grant + SJP: NO CHEMISTRY...who would've thought?

With two comedic talents such as them, you'd think this would've been comic gold instead of the lackluster performances they both give (especially on SJP's part). Hugh Grant is basically doing a caricature of....himself. And SJP seems to not have her heart in this...she basically phoned in her performance. It was weird that they didn't seem to have an ounce of chemistry either. I much more enjoyed Mary and Sam's roles.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!

I couldn't imagine anything else from two annoying "movie personalities"

Hugh Grant was stuck with an uninspired script and did his best.

Its that man again!!

Agreed. This is one of those movies that really should have worked, but it was just saddled with a rather tired script, in the main filled with pretty dull sort of dialogue. I felt sorry for the cast, who deserved better.🐭

Exactly what I thought, no chemistry between them. I enjoy the movie only because I enjoy most things Hugh Grant does (even though he's essentially the same character in all his movies). This could have been so much better if they'd have cast someone other than SJP as Mrs. Morgan.

Agreed. I was going to blame the director but I see I really liked his two previous HG films so then I was inclined to blame SJP. But then again, when I watched the outtakes they both seem to be having a good time together - we just don't get to see it in the actual film.
