Be glad bimbos dont get these lead roles......

As much as I enjoyed this movie, at first it didnt really "fit" SJP with Hugh Grant, because, well she isnt the young fresh faced doll she was in her early movies.

But then the more I thought about it the more grateful I was that a normally aging woman got the role, because that is what the script called for. Grant is in his 50's and would it work if the role was played by a 20 or 30 year old that looks like an air head? No. And would it be as enjoyable if the couple were perfect looking with perfect features? No it wouldnt because sometimes we like to relate to characters and have them "real life" and aging couples are a reality.

It is totally plausible that Meryl and Paul met and married when they were young and hot, and are in love and stayed married into their 40's-50's. And its refreshing to see a hollywood movie reflect that.

In real life more often than not, we all know couples where the woman ends up not as attractive as the husband, because she has aged, and the husband didnt divorce her for aging. Or the husband didnt age well and the wife didnt dump him over his lost looks.

Very often, a couple truly in love doesnt even notice when their mate ages, they simply see the person they fell in love with and married many years ago.

This is definitely a rom-com about a couple who are (at least) well into their 40's. That is fundamental to the plot. And yes, even though I think the film is badly flawed, I agree that
