Distribution?

Does this film have a distribution deal? If so, who with?

reply

I just saw the premier. I doubt it will get a distributor. It was not very good. Some observations: Very strange, loud and painful to the ear music; There were several stories being told and each were not developed; the different stories were not related to each other except for the fact the characters "might" have lived in the same neighborhood; I actually thought about walking out. I never walk out of anything. I didn't walk out on this either but that was only out of respect for Edie Falco, who did an excellent job with the material she was given.

Agreed. I was there also. Saying it was "not very good" is being generous - easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was literally painful to watch.

Did you stay for the Q&A? If so, how did that go? I just ran out to catch a bus to avoid the crowd.

reply

Yes. It was actually far more entertaining than the movie. The actors seemed embarrassed when called to the stage. The first question asked by a woman was "is there a reason the soundtrack was so loud?". When the director shot back, "is there a REAL question out there?", half the audience responded with, "that IS a real question!" Mendelsohn then explained that the movie had barely been screened before the premier and acknowledged that the sound needed to be turned down for later shows. (Not that I think that will improve it much.) The rest of the Q&A was pretty defensive and rambling. I was struck that Mendelsohn's nervous manner of speaking was very similar to that of Edie Falco's character. Long story short, the disconnected storylines and the unexplained motivations for the main characters were a feature, not a bug of the movie. The theme was explained that people are lost when they venture from home, or something. IMO, the movie should be re-titled 3 Random People Do Boring Things for No Apparent Reason.

Thank you so much for that summary. Enjoy the rest of the festival! p.s. Try to catch Abel, Diego Luna's directorial debut. WONDERFUL!

As luck would have it, we already have 4 tickets for the Thursday show. You enjoy yourself as well.

Look who just won best director...

A well deserved win.

I disagree with everyone else in this post. I was at that same premiere, and was riveted and moved by the film. Yes, the sound was very loud and Mendelsohn said that they had never screened it before in a theatre and that was the reason. He did seem a bit defensive, but it seemed to me that he was hoping the audience would respond to the content of the film rather than just the sound.

But I think the music was a brave, bold choice that I think worked incredibly well to set tone and help add tension. Edie Falco was incredible and the film just affected me on a really deep level.

i'm having the best time!

Sorry, but not sure what film you were watching. This show had no point; no rationale for viewing; no ending. A wasted hour or so.

This is my signature and I'm sticking to it. lol

hahaha. so true. And I like Edie Falco and Elias Koteas. I really thought that I would enjoy the film. I think the middle of the film was not too bad, but because of the ending, it made everything else worthless. There was no explanation about anything; as you said, just some random people doing boring things. I have no explanation as to why I lay on my bed and watched the whole of this crap. I must have been really bored myself.
