One of the worst movies

HK production has a long way to go. A lot of movies seem like they're made by amateur by U.S. standards. They're almost like B-rated movies and this one is no different. It's supposed to be 3D and it's laughable at that. The story makes no sense, the flow is non-existent, and there are so many damn scene that just drags and drags. I swear half the movie are closeups of people's face staring at each other or various things. There was one point in the movie where I fast forwarded 2 minutes and it was still showing closeups of the chicks face staring. There are about 4 parts in the movie where things fly at you (because the movie is 3D remember?). And those scenes are funny because you know they just added it so they can call it a 3D movie.

I agree. Just because 3D's now back again and it's actually popular these days (as it wasn't at an earlier point), so many filmmakers seem to assume that it's the missing ingredient they should add into the films, even when it's not true. What I hate the most is that even when the movies are already made, they have to turn it into 3D afterwards thinking it'll bring extra box office. Not cool.

This film for example, like you said, it does seem like they added these random 3D scenes so they can call it 3D. And yes, the story kinda sucks, I could guess the ending just watching it half way through. They also repeat scenes many times which is a total failure trying to make the movie longer. What bothered me the most was the dialogue. Whoever wrote that kind of quotes might stay in HK film industry but don't even bother aiming for the oscar :P When the ghost tried to kill the girl at the end and found out she was pregnant, the girl said something like "you can kill me but please don't kill the baby." Seriously, what a crappy line there! Don't you think killing you WILL kill the baby?? Geez...

I won't call it the worst movie ever-that title is reserved for a few other gems like Thailand's Diecovery. I have mixed feelings about it. I agree that staring at a person's face emoting for what seems like forever in order to convey a creepy feeling was a massive FAIL and the line quoted above had me laughing at the absurdity of it, as well. I was hoping it was bad translating but I really doubt it. I also love how grown adults close their eyes when they see something terrifying, as if that will make it go away. If it were me, I would never take my eyes off of it!

However, to say the movie didn't have its creepy parts would be unfair. The building itself was one creepy structure and the first time we see dogboy, he's pretty creepy, too. Rainie's pregnancy was made to be obvious right from the start, so they weren't trying to give us any big surprises there. I did like the empty seat at the table when 7 meals were ordered for 6 people; those kids staring at the seat creeped me out.
****SPOILERS**************
I also have no idea what the ending was all about-I suppose we can assume Rainie was possessed by the innkeepers wife, but what did the boy in the back seat point at and what scared him so much? Rainie was holding a book, the title of which is never shown and then she throws it out the window with a secretive little smile just before we fade to black and hear the sounds of a horrific car crash. What was the book? Was that what the friend in the back seat was pointing at?
****END SPOILERS**********
I think the movie had some promise but it didn't quite deliver like we'd expect from the Pang Brothers. I also agree that the 3-D gimmick is already old, although it may be new for Hong Kong, so let's be fair and give them that.

The book's the horror book she had been reading at the beginning which they told her to stop reading. I think she just wanted to junk it as she doesn't need ghost story books to scare herself anymore as she's just lived through one, but lol who the heck discards books out of car windows.

reply

Ah interesting; I forgot about that as I watched the movie in two sittings so that explains it.I was wondering if it had to do with their sudden demise! And yeah, LOL, I agree, who throws books out car windows? Although I admit to one atrocious Britney Spears CD getting tossed out my car window once long, long ago. It wasn't mine and didn't belong in my car. ;)

Anyway, thanks for the response!

<<<HK production has a long way to go

actually, the way I understad it, Hong Kng movies were good at one point and are currently in a declne the ame way Hollwood movies seem to currently be in a decline.

The decline in Hong Kong movies started when the British gave Hong Kong to China. When that happened, a lot of the the-then hong kong moviemakers fled to Hollywood.

however, it seems like what worked in Hong Kong movies doesn't work in Hollywood movies as that is also around the time most people in Amerca say Hollywood movies started really declining really fast. Although they were unaware that was the reason or at least part of the reason.

I was hoping this movie would be better. It wasn't scary at all.
