...and if you watch Lost Tapes and are old enough to recall the mid 1990s...
I've been racking my brains trying to remember the name of a tv show from that time period. It must have come out around the time of Blair Witch Project or after...it was a half hour kid-oriented show where kids around the country went out with a video camera to document their local legends, hauntings & mysteries...of course they sometimes scared themselves silly in the process, My daughter and I used to watch it and tape it but unfortunately the VHS tapes I had of this were lost in a flood. I've searched imdb and the web to no avail. I think this aired on ABC Family or FX. If anyone remembers this, please let me know.
And as for Lost Tapes I find it cheesy but I love cheesy monster movies and I'm fascinated by cryptozoology (I was checking out books on the abominable snoman repeatedly in grade school).

I think the "mid 1990s" time frame may be throwing off your search. Blair Witch didn't come out until 1999 so you may be looking for a show that aired in 2000 or later.

Well, I don't know if this is the series you were looking for, but if the post above is correct, and you are looking for something of the 2000's and the show was a kid oriented, maybe this is it? look for "Mystery Hunters"

Thanks everyone for your suggestions...wasn't any of the shows you mentioned. I googled a few of the places they filmed at, and found it..it was called "Real Scary Stories" and aired on Fox Family, in 2000, and later reran on Sci-Fi Channel and Chiller (sorry I missed that!) retitled "Scary But True". There are episodes on youtube.
