WTF???

I was right enjoying this film until the creature showed up and WHOAH! Who in thier right minds thought the design for this monster would look good? It's without doubt, THE SINGLE WORST movie monster I have seen in anything made after the 1950's. It's dreadful, how did the cast (including the brilliant Michael Rooker) keep straight faces during filming? There really is no need, on any budget, to create a movie monster this bad in this day and age, sheesh!

I totally agree with you. Even if you try really hard, I'm not sure you can actually make a worse suit. It looked more like a gimp costume than a sea creature, I was getting worried that it was going to rape Michael Rooker.

reply

PMSL I'd pity anyone who tried to sexually assault Michael Rooker the guys hard as nails but respect to ya, I'm glad I aint the only one who thought the monster suit was awful...Such a shame because the film itself wasn't too bad

Holy Jeez!!!!

I thought you guys were exaggerating! That thing was the absolute worst! And the old bag trying to explain her pain to it????!!!!!!!

How did this movie get the lead actor to even appear in it?? I've seen him in a lot of good, big budget movies, the one about the psychotic killer, a mountaineering movie with stalone......and a bunch more...I thought he was a sought after actor, maybe not leading man material, but a quality actor......no?

reply

I imagine that that they hooked the actors (fishing pun completely and unapologetically intended) before anyone knew how crappy the effects would be. The actors may never have seen the effects until it debuted, if the full-on monster shots were done separately.

The cast of "Face Off" could of come up with a really awesome monster for these guys for free if they just asked I bet.

could have, not could of. Sorry, that's a pet peeve of mine...

I hear your pain, mate,
But there must be somekind of explanation for the crappy monster suit, or at least a funny story behind it...was the guy who made the monster somehow related to one of the producers...surely something must be said on the DVD 's commentary about the monster 's suckyness.

I watched this on a stream so didn't have the benefit of the dvd commentary, shame, as like you say, I bet the story behind it is a hoot lol :-)

Yeah, I was thinking it would have some garbage CGI but instead it was just some guy in a really fake rubber suit.

We should learn from our past mistakes, so that we can make new ones.

I suspect the actors didn't knew what the monster would look like when they were filming. Except for the arm, the (LOL) monster never actually appeared in a scene with the actors. The actors may have just thought the producers would add in a cool CGI creature later.

Or, they did know and didn't give a damm because they needed the money.

See how that works?

Worst movie monster. EVER. Period. Even the 1963 Jason and the Argonauts had better monsters. Pre 1960's effects are quaint. This 2010 effect...pathetic. The acting was decent, which made the amateur monster all the more awful to watch.

lol spot on mate :-D
