Question about the accident spoilers

Did the agency arrange for the astronaut to have an 'accident'? Otherwise it would be mighty convenient that he just happened to bite it right after they cloned him. Were there some clues in the dialogue to suggest this?

Interesting point, but that's not what I thought.

The coincidence is, he died right as his mother did.

I think this movie has to do with spiritual connections, and the one with his mother would have been a strong one.
