Good but lacked the punch to be great

I did very much enjoy the acting by Mendellson (as usual) and it was a pretty decent story. The praise it is getting, like its a pulp fiction or Goodfellas is just insane. I'm not saying that because I DIDNT read that on reviews and on the MB. It is super depressing which is ok. I mean the content of the film is really depressing and there are a few scenes (all of which Mendellson is in ) that are very good. Problem is that the film never comes into fruition and stops where it needed to go farther. It lacks the punch to be called a "masterpiece " (which I won't even get started on about every good film being called that ..Ugh ) . It deserves a 6.8 in my opinion and that's it. I wouldn't say not to watch it but it's a huge let down to what it could have been. Huge let down for me on this film. I'm not saying that those who thought it was great don't know anything about good cinema. To each their own and I would never tell someone to watch or not watch it. Just could have been so much more and I hope that people that loved it take a 2nd watch and see where they missed making a truly unforgettable film.

Yeah it wasn't very riveting. Definitely not "the Australian answer to Goodfellas" as it was claimed. Quite frankly I felt nothing for any of the characters, they don't set up Edgerton's murder in any meaningful way, there's not really any suspense. It was just kind of a bland, average at best movie to me.
