Underwhelming Lead

The strengths of the film: good period detail, interesting setting and a strong performance by Heath Freeman are mostly undone by a dull, uninteresting performance by Shiloh Fernandez. It isn't believable that his character is this brilliant writer who everybody seems to like and think is destined for great things. Nothing much he says is particularily noteworthy or charismatic. For those comparing this to "Adventureland," it's not even close. "Adventureland" is light years more enjoyable and a much better film.
