Where did Diego get that power?

Possible minor spoiler....

Nowhere in season one or all of season two was it hinted at that Diego could stop countless bullets shot at him in mid air. At least I can't remember anything remotely alluding to that fact.

Maybe he has that power in the comics? Even if he does, it came out of left field in the show. If I missed something, please let me know where in the series I can go back and watch.

reply

I don't know.

It just made me think that his knife throwing skill done by controlling it's flight, much how he controlled the bullets.

reply

I was startled by that too, maybe they explained it and it ended up being edited out. It came out of nowhere.

reply

Okay I saw a YouTube video about this issue last night. Diego can bend his knives to go in whatever direction he wants. This was shown best at the dinner with Reginald where he threw his knife and it curved around to hit a post behind their table. So he can manipulate metal.

reply

not really manipulate metal, in the comics its explained that he can bend air, thats why everything in the air are under his control, like flying knifes

reply

Oh that’s so cool! Thanks for sharing.

reply

lololo, Diego the last Air Bender.

Jinx is right but so are you. It did come out of left field for me as well but it clicked for me while he was holding the bullets back.

reply

Its an extension of being able to change the path of metal objects moving at high speeds... previously just his knives. Though agreed, they should have showed other non-knife instances of this before going into the bullets scene.

reply

You'd think he'd maximize this power by carrying guns on him instead of/in addition to knives. Especially going into big battles. I mean, the power to dump 30/50/100 rounds from a full auto pistol and send each one to a specific target, around obstacles, cover etc. That's game changing. I guess they didn't want to seem pro gun or something.

reply

Why use a gun, he could just have a bag of stones, or pellets, etc. Much quieter.

reply

A fair point but we don't know how his power works. He seems to need to use physical exertion i.e. throwing his knives in order to get them to fly. So it's likely he can't accelerate metal under his own brain power from stationary. If he could send knives flying from his sheaths then yeah, having pouches full of steel ball bearings would be the way to go. Assuming he needs to manually throw each projectile and he can for arguments sake throw 5 at a time with each throw taking a second, that's 6 seconds for 30 projectiles. A gun could do that in 1.5 seconds and with a greater base speed.

reply

his power is to bend air, thats why his knifes can be thrown around corners and such

reply

I don't think we've seen enough to make that claim really but I'm open to some sort of air manipulation considering his supposed ability to hold his breath for extended periods of time.

reply

well its not a theory from me, its explained in the comics that he can bend air, he has control of everything flying around in the air, thats why he uses throwing knives.

reply

OK. It's just not mentioned anywhere online like on the UA wiki or anything.
