Season 2 is better...

I liked season 1 but I think season 2 was just better overall.

The plot was well paced and the action kept things moving forward as well.

All the returning characters were great and the new additions were good.

8/10

That's good to hear.

At half right now and enjoying it quite a lot. More than season 1.

Soundtrack 10/10 ...

The soundtrack was awesome, agree with you. I don’t even listen to most of that music usually.

If you know me, you know I don’t much like Netflix’ own content. I find their series lazy, formulaic in a bad way (the first 3 Bond movies, by contrast, are formulaic in a good way) and padded with boring dialogue and filler. I liked Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy, but I agree with others posting here: Season 2 completely engaged me from start to finish, had a unified narrative, not a trace of filler, really good production design and FX, and brought Ritu Arya in the role of Lila into the cast. SHE is magnetic. ‘S all I have to say. She’s kind of like Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. She just SELLS her role. She’s blessed with gravitas and charisma. This was a joy to watch.

Agree.

I rewatched everything from the beginning, and I'd say the seasons are about the same.

But yes, definitely pretty good, and I am looking forward to more. Hope the pandemic doesn't affect them - I mean depending on how long they have to wait to film, #5 will be fully grown already and the others will age noticeably.

I disagree.
There were a few episodes in the second half that seems like a delay tactic. As if they knew where the end was but did not have enough writing to get there.
Stopping the Apocalypse should have been the end episode with stopping The Handler being a stepping stone. Sort of like how Buffy The Vampire slayer would have a big bad in the first part of the season then the REAL big bad at the end.
In season one having Cha-Cha and Hazel burn the lab down while they were wasted was good but they did the same thing again and it just did not work as well this time.

Season 1 was more tight and better plot wise whereas Season 2 seemed more like they had to add filler to get 10 episodes in.

Also, I didn't feel that the older actor playing #5 got the boy's expressions and mannerisms well.

I definitely did not have the feeling that it was the same individual.

reply

Yes! The older actor was really flat. The actor who plays #5 is truly remarkable, I can’t imagine how bad the show would be with any other child actor, I have never seen anything like it and I was prepared to dislike him at the beginning. I thought he would annoy me frankly.

I have a feeling that the producers thought that they wouldn’t be using the older five in as many scenes so they didn’t put as much pressure on casting that character than they did with the main cast.
