I didn't buy Lauren and Carter as a couple

I liked the overall story with its unique and humorous take on the lifelong effects of divorce on the main character but the portrayal of Lauren was rather weak, and I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead overall, but she felt like a place-holder whose only existence was to show us that Carter wasn't gay.
